It takes months and months and lots and lots of work to horde all the resources you'll need in order to be a chef success.
Start looking for the following:
Berries, Fruits, Flowers andGreens*hence to Brandy, Canape, Ahrisa* <----your best sellers
Tubers, Insect Meat, Lub Oil *hence to Vercupti*
Carni Meat and any veggies with high stats *hence to Bivoli*
I could go on and on but thats a start for you
Might I suggest that you get active in swgcraft.com as I've found it to very very useful in keeping track of resouces spawns.

In a nutshell: Everything.
Hell....we even use Lubricating Oil.
Berries, fruits, tubers, rices, oats, wheats, greens, beans, wood, water, meat, hide, fungus, etc. We use all of it. The higher the stats the better. Best thing you can do is read the FAQ's on this forum and learn what to look for in resources. That, and learn your recipes.
If you have decent cash to start, you can buy a lot of the good resources you need. If you can buy enough to start, and you get semi-lucky on the shifts of organics....you should be relatively up to speed within a few months. Maybe less. And every month you stay a chef, it gets better. You will start to accumulate vast amounts of quality flora. Buy a couple extra houses.....you will need them.
