Hi guys and girls,
I am interested to know whether 0-4-0-4 is enough in Bio Engineer to make decent bio components for food additives?
I realise that you can't make heavy additives without master, but I'm really not sure if I want to invest the skill points to get master...
What are your opinions? is it worth going master for the extra experimentation points? does it make that much difference?
I'm on quite a low population server (scylla) which is why I would want to be making the BE components myself, as I can't guaruntee a supply.

Well, the Master BE box gives +25 experimentation, which means that with 0404 you only have 7 points (75 / 10 = 7.5 = 7 points). From some rough number-crunching, I think that would max out at around 52 bonus micronutrients or 82 bonus BSNs with some really good resources (for a good starting percentage), 50 / 80 might be more common. That's with only great success, if you put in all 7 points and got an amazing success, you could probably hit 54 / 84 bonus tissues (although that might take quite a few tries, and you should take advantage of Research center + Bespin port to get it).
If those numbers qualify as "decent bio components" for you, go for it.

Thanks for the reply
I'm not really sure what decent bio numbers are.I was a chef before the revamp, but dropped it to focus more on PVP.
What would you consider to be decent bio numbers?
What are the figures on the Additives you use?

Numbers for "decent" nutrition additives are generally in the x5 range (so 55 for micronutrients, 85 for BSNs, and 115 for nanonutrients). Lower values aren't necessarily bad, but they will limit the effectiveness of the final buff a bit.
I tend to use 57/87/117 tissues, with 58/88/118 when I can get them. Although I'm lucky in having a few BEs on my server who are very good on quality and regular service. I've also got a business partner who has picked up BE, and I've been starting to use her skills as well.

Thanks for your help
I probably will end up picking up Master Bio Engineer, quality and supply availability are quite important to me, so I want to make sure I can have the highest possible BE additives whenever I need them.
I worked out the following template which should be alright:
Master BE
Master Chef
Merchant 3-0-0-0
Artisan 0-4-4-0
Scout 2-0-4-0
Is Exploration 2 all you need to harvest milk, or do you have to take it up to 3?
Novice surveying skills is a bit annoying, but I really need the planetary ad campaign from Merchant 3.

To get milk, you just need exploration 2 for the /maskscent ability....
.....that and a whole lot patience (although with the increases with the last patch maybe not quite as much).

My BE alt is 0444
The best BSNs I've made so far were 85s
Its better than nothing, but I don't like having to rely on other BEs for the heavy nutrition tissues that is granted in MBE. If I could free up more SPs, I'd get MBE in a heartbeat.

You only need Exploration II for mask scent, but the higher the mod, the more reliable it is of course. But I think the higher the mod is, the sooner you can reapply it when its broken. So I'd get Exploration IV if you have the SP. And Brackasets are great for getting alot of milk, but of course whatever best is in shift...

you don't need to keep Adv 3 to have your vendors listed. Once you've registered them you can drop the merchant box.

That must have been with some amazing resources.
Before I went all the way to Master BE most of my additives were 81-82's, Obviously not the best, but better than nothing if you either can't afford to buy tissues or can't find any for sale. Those 81-82 would have usually turned out into 84-85 if I had the points available.
Just like mentioned above the Heavy additives are what finally drove me to getting Master.

unless you have your heart set on becoming a partial BE you might consider jus tbefriending a MBE. I personally gather all my own resources (using one of the tools for tissue stat calculations) and then give them to my MBE friend who makes me a factory schem. It may be a little inconvient when you need a schem and they arent on but to be able to get the best possible tissues its all worth it to me. This will save you money to in the long run as you can use one of your already exsisting food factories. Good luck with your choice

Hmm that's certainly worth thinking about, I really think there is a big shortage of BE's on my server tho. I should ask and see how many there are.
