Thread: experimenting on 2 lines at once

oops it posted with no message! what i was going to say was...

let me start out by saying that i approach cooking as more art than science. i do use a tissue calculator but haven't used one for food, i like to get in and play with my resources. and while i read the posts explaining the math with great interest (and sometimes a helping of confusion), i admit i don't "get" the math in the way some folks do. but what i do has worked well for me for a year and a half so all is well.

this week tho i've gotten very curious. i'm trying to make pikatta pie using the same resources and same strength BE tissue that i did last time, and i'm capping at 55 dodge, where before i got 56. triple-checked the resources, over-wrote my dance buff and got another, and i just can't figure it out. was talking to a good friend about this and she got me thinking and experimenting but i don't think she's right either, maybe y'all can help me.

she and i were talking about the red risk line, when you experiment more than one line at a time. she'd been making pica the other day, and by experimenting more than one line at a time she got the same result with a great as she did with an amazing. so she told me that the risk is more failures, but that the reward is better results. she sent me to estei's FAQ but i read it (the parts that didn't make my brain melt from fractions anyway) and i didn't see that on there.

but i tried that last night on the pikatta, and what it looks like to me is, if i'm spending 8 points on nutrition and 3 on flavor in the same experiment, sometimes it will report a "great' result, but i do get the duration of an amazing. so i think that it only reports the result from one line, but it's actually doing 2 calcs, one for each line, and it's possible to get one great and one amazing and have it just tell you about the great?

i'd really love to understand this but if i experiment with it any further myself my brain will explode, this is just not my thing. really hoping some of you kind, patient math experts will step in here and help me out, thanks!

Yes, it's very possible to get one amazing and one great doing it that way. As far as I know if you get a great on either line & an amazing on the other it always shows as "great".

thanks. and it doesn't actually raise your caps and let you get higher on amazings, just in theory lets you do less experiments if you do get lucky and get both amazings in one roll?

I've never seen it raise caps and can't imagine why it would. But yeah, it's nice for using Bespin on though sometimes it takes longer than doing it the regular way.

yeah i didn't think that it would, and it doesn't appear to for me, but my friend was convinced she'd read that somewhere and had seen it happening. what i think it was, tho, was that the result told her great but one line was amazing, and that's where the confusion came in.

thank you, you helped me clear up my own confusion!!!

you might want to try using no more that 7pts at a time. for some reson it caps amazing at 7points.

lets say i am making pikitta pie and i use 8pts and get an amazing it gives me 54, but if i use 7pts, get an amazing than do 1pt , get an amazing it =55.

i have been a chef for about 2 years and rarly exp in 2 lines at once, there are a few foods were this works very well for some resone, but i cant remember what ones. Now when i exp on my lightsaber, i do 2 lines at once, and i get better results than doing one line , imagine that lol

any ways good luck and all
