Thread: One possible partial solution to the too many items on vendors as stated by the devs.
The devs have stated that they were thinking of cutting down the total number of items(I take items to mean database item objects. i.e. each crate object, each single stack, etc.) to 150 on each vendor. This would kill chefs due to the number and variety of consumables that we need to keep stocked. I don't know how the thread has turned out(that's alot of pages that I don't have time to read right now), but I have a suggestion that would require two changes.
1) When any manufacturing schematic is run, it creates a single crate with as many items as the schematic makes. This would mean you would have a crate with 500 fishaks(well 1000 fishaks if you can put two full runs of aludiums in the ingredient hopper
) when the run is done.
2)Allow this full crate to be placed on the vendor and a special option given when placing it for sale. This option would allow the sale of a certain amount of the full crate to the customer of the vendor. Example: Joe Bounty Hunter wishes to buy 200 stacks of Fishak. There are 1000 on the vendor. He chooses BUY AMOUNT instead of BUY ALL(which buys an entire stack quick), then chooses the amount of stacks he would like to buy from the stack, the system flashes a confirmation message with the total amount he wishes to buy, he clicks okay, and depending on how the devs implement it, gets the items back. I would hope that the devs allow for just one large crate back, but I know this is probably not possible(although it would alleviate the problems with numerous database records).
3) This would also alleviate issues with a cluttered buy screen that has numerous pages(each page meaning another query hitting the database
) which would also lead to better customer relations for those customers that cannot stand flipping through numerous pages.
Ideas? Hate this? Love this? Want to give me Food Experimentation tapes on Gorath? ![]()
Sorry Ezran, but you are incorrect. The proposed change is to limit vendors to 100 items period.
What you said was an idea which one of the players came up with as a suggestion, but not what the devs intend on doing. The original message was put out by Thunderheart and unless he has posted something new after that, i wouldn't count on them modifying or backing down on what they intend on doing.
Unfortunately, the posts from thunderheart have gone screwy since they moved to the new forum system.

I want to expand on my idea to tie vendor item limits to Merchant Skill. I think that the limit should be as followed:
- Bus 3 = 50
- Bus 4 = 100
- Novice = 150
- Man 1 = 200
- Man 2 = 300
- Man 3 = 400
- Man 4 = 500
- Master = 1,000
This is an idea I like too. I shared the idea with the Lead Designer and he likes this idea too.
The thing here is to implement it right away means that as a merchant goes up in level, it wouldnt automatically upgrade in numbers. If you gained a new merchant skill box which unlocked more slots, you would have to create a new vendor. We'd be able to add an automatic check and upgrade in the future, but it wouldnt be for a long time.
Even still, I think its a great idea to add this ability in. I dont know what the max numbers would be yet though Ill ask.

i dont know that your still reading all these negative responses, but hopefully youve gotten the gist that people really dont want a 150 cap
I do.You may have missed it, but it's looking like there will be an incremental cap based on the merchant skill.
So, we'll have to wait and see what's actually done.
Personally, I like the idea. There are very few true merchants in the game (Like CENTARAUS JONES on TC). I don't want to deal with the bulk selling of food. I'd rather give it to someone who will distribute it across the galaxy, and only deal with friendly people with special orders.
Well these changes will affect me, and I HATE it. 50!!! Items?
