Ok I've looked through the guides and all through the forums and can't find my answer. So I apologize upfront if you masters have seen this topic before.

I'm extremely new to the profession and simply want to know the benefit(s) for being a propeitor of a cantina. I realize you can place vendors but other than that what is the benfit of giving up so many lots? Are we the only profession that can place cantinas in a PC? BTW how many lots does 1 cantina take? Thanks for the info..

Cantinas can be placed by Master Chefs, Master Musicians, and Master Dancers. The benefit is that you're providing a place where people can come to get BF healed. You can do that in a player house, but I heard a rumor a while back that the devs were going to remove that, it was a workaround to compensate for the fact that player cantinas weren't included at launch. They also look cool, and provide your city with a status symbol. They are also an obvious place to look for drink vendors, which can be handy if you don't have Advertising 3 (the skill allowing for planetary registration).

A cantina takes up 5 lots, which makes it a bit rough for a chef without making prior arrangements to borrow lots from other players for his/her harvesters. Musicians/Dancers are probably more likely to put these down, just because they're less likely to need the lots (unless they've also taken a crafting profession).

Also there is a big social value in it. The cantina easily becomes the gathering point for inhabitants in a player city. Like if anyone ever asks a guildmate on GC where they will meet i always hear the response "In cantina".

Thanks for the responses That leads me to another question. If a Master Chef places the cantina and gives up his/her lots, who pays the upkeep? Does the city through taxes? or is it the reponsibility of the Chef? or is it both?

Thanks again for your vast knowledge on the subject

Upkeep is the responsibility of the Chef. City does not pay anything. The cantina does not "cost" the city anything, but the cantina will be subject to any property taxes.

Intersting. I guess I can't get passed the 'cost' of a cantina to a chef. So not only do you 'give up' 5 lots, you also have the upkeep of the cantina.

IMO the ONLY way a chef could possibly own a Cantina is to acquire other lots through other means?!? Am I right to assume this? It seems much more feasible to me that a Cantina be owned by a Dancer or Musician due mainly to the lot situation.

Sure it's nice to say "That there is my Cantina".., but at what cost to you??

Maybe I'm missing something here so please more feedback would be helpful.

I'm assuming Cantina Chef Propeitors MUST have lots from other means. Seems like if they don't they surely wouldn't be making any money. It would be nice to somehow make money on the Cantina simply by people visiting but I know that doesn't currently happen.

Cantinas are THE hotspot of any Player City. Do it up right ina city with Player traffic and you can have people in your establishment 24/7.

Yes it takes up lots and has no place for storage. I use a Small Naboo or 2 to help store stuff. I partner with another player to share lots for harvesters and such. I have other people that drop their vendors in my Cantina and pay me a rental fee. They are willing to pay this fee because the Cantina is the obvious meeting choice for people to heal, buff, and organize.

Make it look nice, arrange for an entertainer or two to be there fairly often, and keep it fairly stocked, and you're in business. If you have special events or shows, charge an entrance fee at those times if you need the money.

Wanting to be social hub (as was my goal) helps to give you reason to exist. If not, help somebody else to establish one and just drop in a vendor, pay rent, and sell your wares. My initial goal was to have a party place, not to make money, and I suceeded. But the new foods have been too profitable and I'm now making money despite myself. Go figure.

Stop by the Drunkan Gungan on Naboo for my example!

Well said Rrrando! I can go with that! Thanks

(Still would be nice for it to not take up 5 lots though...hehe)

One thing i pushed for when cantinas came out is for that item behind the bar to be used as a food factory. You know, the one with all the faucets. I was told by the developers that it was a great idea...and may go in someday when they have the time to code it. (Which means it might be a while.)

I wish I had a Cantina but a dancer in our guild wanted it. Right now it looks pretty bad inside. It's sad. So I took on the backside of my brother's account who plays on Bloodfin and I threw down a PA hall for my Cantia. I didn't like having all these houses everywhere and I like the flat open inside.

In regards to costs, if you are friends with a Master Merchant or one with Efficenty 4, add them to admin on your house/shop/etc and have them deposit just 1credit even and you get the merchant modifier for them being on your admin list.
