Hello to all the Master Chefs and Chefs in training. You have all received some wonderful love from SOE lately, maybe you could teach us Rangers how to get some love from them. The only thing we had going for us was creature harvesting and now a novice scout with a good droid can do better.

I'd argue that not everyone considers the chef revamp to be 'love', particularly not with virtually complete dependence on a master hybrid class. I'd recommend being careful what you ask for from the devs.

I've been a master ranger, before I snapped back to my senses and ditched hologrinding, and was wholly unimpressed with trapping, tracking, and camping. But I have to say, it is scouts and rangers charging us 200+cpu for meat and milk, so it can't be all that bad. And, if a novice scout with a droid can harvest a lot, think what a master ranger with a droid can do.

A good droid used by who? As far as I saw on TC, the amount that the droid harvested was directly tied to the "Creature Harvesting" skill of the player. I picked one up, and when I got another box of Hunting, its harvestingalso went up. Heck, I was able to increase its harvesting by eating a Veghash.

Now if you're talking about a good droid used by a Novice Scout, that's just wrong.

As far as getting "Dev Love", one thing that I strongly suspect helped us was SirVimes. He pushed for a lot of things, many of which made the revamp or got tweaked when we determined the first pass wasn't good enough. And based on what I've seen from Calculus_Entropy, you're in good hands.

Why not get a droid and pair it with the skill, or drop the skill altogether?

Truthfully, the people on this board are as dependent on rangers/scouts as we are on BEs, so I don't think anyone here will complain that it's _too easy_ to get mass quantities of meat. The creature-farming harvesters idea routinely resurface here and have a lot of support. That's not to say anyone supports breaking a class, certainly the opposite. But rangers were gimpy long before harvesting droids appeared, and it's not as though rangers can't also get use from them.

The droid uses your skill, plus a bonus dependingon how many harvesting usits are in it, therefor, a Ranger with a droid will harvest more than a Novice Scout with a droid.

The difference it makes, is that you can kill one mob, hit droid harvest macro, start shooting the next, all whilst in combat - no more waiting for a full mob pop to die before you harvest

Everyone I've sold harvesting droids to loves them - plus you can add in a trap module - ook the traps aren't amazing, but they can help kill mobs.

I don't see that Ranger has been made useless by these droids, but that isn't to say that Ranger isn't in need of some serious work by the devs.

Oh, and Vegehash improves the droids harvesting rate too

Unfortunately that is part of my point. No one needs a Ranger anymore. They have taken a profession that was already in dire need of repair just as the Droid Engineer and Chef were and completely eradicated the one functioning benefit it had left. I am glad for the Droid Engineer profession as I am sure these harvesting droids are selling well but it has just added insult to injury for the Ranger profession from where I sit.

I would argue that there was never a need for Rangers. There are far more scouts that hunt than total rangers. A ranger can harvest more, but not twice as much. I'm not saying it should be this way, just that IMO it is this way. I would guess that the 15ish people that normally hunt for me are all scouts and none are rangers. They are just rare because the profession has been so useless for so long.

The one decent bonus a Ranger got was a small increase in harvest. I guess I don't see how droids have changed that. You still harvest more as a Ranger.

From the prices I pay for meat, anyone with hunting skills and elite combat can easily make 500k-1million in 3-4 hours. The problem is that you don't need to be a ranger to do that. Ranger shouldn't help you kill faster though, the skills should make you more self suficiant. I see the ranger profession as more of a soloist profession. With the exception of tracking, everything a ranger has that is useful can beattained in the scout tree. That is something that is definatly wrong with the profession. As a Swordsman I can do more with my skills than I could with just the brawler skills. The most useful skill a ranger has is something they recieve at novice scout. There is almost no combat profession that has that same thing. Berserk is the one possible exception but it is far from the best skill for any brawler.

how to get "dev love"...well not sure you really want to be asking chefs that one...

in all honesty we've received less "love" during our revamp than any of the other professions did...we didn't get a huge direct dev interaction forum where they let us know how they would be doing things, gave us a chance to respond, and responded to our responses.

granted we had a great correspondent SirVimes, and if it weren't for our complete faith in his ability to represent us...the chef revamp would have gone very poorly given the amount of communication that was coming from the devs.

yes they seemed to listen to concerns we voiced in our forums...likely because SirVimes made sure they realized when they had made a big mistake, etc...but nonetheless, bugs that were present when the revamp went live...are still bugs...barrels don't work, stomach decay still takes longer than it should...we only recently received our first new schematic...one of the many we were assured would be coming our way in future publishes...

and even that new schematic...given the level of "camping" of the death watch cave that took place between it going live on TC and when publish 8 hit the live servers...the new schematic was likely thrown in at the last minute in response to the growing dissent amongst chefs towards the devs regarding the lack of new schematics that we were promised. hence it looks exactly like a BoH clone...same art...similar resource requirements...and same subcomp requirements...looks like a quick copy and paste...with a few edits to change resource requirements to wild rice/fruits, and the buff from str/quick/foc to con/stam/will

but anyway...if there is a secret tactic that chefs employed to get "dev love"...don't ask for things for yourself...always ask for things for other professions when they benefit you (i.e. chef aprons for tailors...better tissues for BE's...etc.), and ask for things that would benefit others when they are for you (try looking at the latest requests for new schematics...most are in response to needs/requests that other professions have voiced...i.e. BE's have wanted to see the CL when examining a creature without having to take master scout...a measly 10 extra creature knowledge points).

if rangers would like a greater mod for certain skills...request that chefs receive a food that gives that bonus instead of asking for a change to the mod bonuses in the ranger boxes...or if a ranger wants a more developed camp system...perhaps try working with tailors (i.e. have them craft some subcomponents for the camps/etc.).

examples of possible ranger buffs from chef foods:

-bonus to area track (if thats possible)
-higher bonuses from camo buff food...

not a ranger so can't say what else might be possible.
