As a Chef/BE I only have enough skill points for 4 boxes in Merchant. Which of the following do you think would be better for business?
3 0 0 1 Merchant for Advertising ( Therefore bringing in customers who don't frequent the boards )
or
0 0 0 4 Merchant for Vendor Limit
Which of these would be better do you think? With the first one I would have a vendor limit of1250 items... Is that enough to have a well stocked variety vendor? I also hold a Pet Stims and Tailor tissues vendor with about 60 items on each at any given time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Btw.. I started BE first and then decided to pick up Chef to supply my BH with food but I figure if I am gonna do Chef too why not make a little money eh?

As long as you are making solely crates, I suggest getting advertising 3, simply because it will get you more business.
I have only had a maximum of 600 crates on my vendor.

From what you describe, I think you'd be fine with a 1250 limit. I don't gather that you intend on carrying every type of chef product out there, but rather the primary stuff (vas brandy, ahrisa, canape, and maybe a couple others). With that lineup, you'd be fine with the lower item count.
The advertising would help with with your other product offerings as well.

Just my $0.02, unless you have many, many homes and extraordinary organizing skills!) or many, many factories used solely for storage, I would suggest getting 0-0-0-4 and getting your limit as high as possible. As a chef, you'll find that you stockpile a *ton* of resources and you'll need someplace tidy and convenient to store them all. I don't know about anyone else, but my berry stock alone would fill a medium house, and I just can't spare all those lots. The bulk of the things on my vendors aren't really foods or any of the other random goodies I sell, but stored items. I hit my limit this afternoon, and ended up deleting a bunch of loot items I was selling in addition to taking a bunch of things to Coronet and giving them away free to passers by. You may be able to get away with having advertising for a while, but once you start really collecting resources, you can't beat having a vendor tucked away for storage purposes.

Yeah I am starting to hope that Word of Mouth will suffice. I already have 480 items up on my Tissue Storage vendor just from making Trim/Cask/Additives/Tissues. Then I also have a ton of resources banked and other places that I would like to bring all together.
Thanks everyone for their opinion and hopefully I can work this out

I have about perhaps 600-1000 items actually for sale on my vendors.
For that the 1250 would be enough.
But my storage vendor has probably about 2000 Items on it at any given time (resources, full runs of Alcohol, full runs of tissues/Additves, etc), so I'm pretty glad I'm Master Merchant

Well I've made up my mind.. I am going 0 0 0 4 Merchant. Lastnight to finish Mastering I dropped to 30 0 1 Merchant andtried to add an item to one of my vendors. I was already at/above my limit without even setting up a food vendor!
So I will for sure need the extra vendor limit to run my business.
Thanks again.

If you take Advertising 3 and register your vendor, it stays registered after you drop the box. Best of both worlds.
Of course, the correct answer is... Hiring 4! You gotta put him in a Chef outfit. Then worry about picking up the boxes you want to keep.
