Thread: A Bio-Engineers Questions to Chefs
I'm a MBE looking into working with tissues a little more than I did early in my career. What I'd really like to know are the basics of how a chef actually works with tissues to use in their cooking. I feel I need to know this so that I can better serve thechef community and their customers.
Are there particular tissues that you prefer to work with? Specific tissue types come in two varieties, one that a bioengineer gets at the early part of his career, the Micronutrient Supplement (Increase Duration) for example, and an "advanced" version later in his career, Broad Spectrum Nutrients being the upgrade to my previous example. Should I stock both varieties or just the high end one? I've been stocking my best one, but wondering if some of you prefer the lower versions for your "budget" customers.
What tissue type do you seek the most? Food Duration? Food Effectiveness? +Health & -Action? What should I prioritize stocking my store with when not working on a specific order from a chef?
Also, pricing. For those of you who do buy tissues from BEs, what do you pay for them? I've never been asked by a chef yet, so I have no idea what chefs are willing to pay. I am aware that these go into consumable products and probably shouldn't charge what I do for tailor tissues, for example, but I am mindful about my production costs and will not sell underthe averagecpu rate I spent on resources. As it is, the prices of my products have always been based on the strength of the final product, such as a (for example only) 1000 cr per plus point on a tailor tissue. My pet stims are priced based on a formula derived from the healing strength and the number of charges. Pets have a base charge based on the CL, and resistances, armor, specials are factored in as additions to that base price. I intend to do the same, but need some examples to prices you folks have paid for certain tissues so I can crunch some numbers and figure out what my prices would be.
Am I missing anything else here? Any questions, concerns for bio-engineers? Please let me know. ![]()
And of course, SHAMELESS PLUG TIME! If any of you are on Ahazi, and need something or have questions, please email me. I try to catch my tells, but I'm often still bombarded with the now ever annoying "Cn u mkeme auber kimo?" tells
and could miss your tell if I'm dealing with one or two of those while also dealing with the spam in Coronet. Email will insure I'll see your request/questions and get back to you on it. ![]()
As a chef i rarely ever use BE items to enchance food simply because none of my best sellers have place for it. And if i ever make anything that actually needs BE things it becomes to expensive to add it.
But on a positive note i believe it will change after chef's are being redone which you can read about here

Ok, tissues can only be used is some of the food subcomponents, which means that not all foods can benefit from them. The most common tissue I've seen getting used is the duration nutrients, since any food can be improved by a longer duration. The big food sellers that can use tissues are Bivoli Tempari (+120 mind, 800s), Glazed Glucose Pate (+225 mind & focus, -175 health & con), Correlian Fried Ice Cream (+200 focus, 200s), and Veghash (+100 con, stamina, and willpower 120s). The broad spectrum nutrients are especially nice in the Bivoli since it already has a high base duration.
Most chefs are going to want tissues in factory crates, the larger the run the better. Since food is consumable, most customers want it in crates, and a factory run requires identical components.
Now, it's my understanding that buff enhancement tissues only effect the final food if that food buffs/debuffs the stats on the tissue. So a +Health/-Action tissue won't do anything to a Fried Icecream. I haven't tested that myself, so if anyone has any experience with buff tissues, feel free to correct me.
A few questions, if you don't mind. The tissue listing I've seen (at this site) has the buff enhancers giving a bonus to one stat and a negative to another. Are these only to the pool stats, or would a +Health, -Action tissue positively affect all three health stats and negatively affect all three action stats? And are these bonuses hard numbers (like +200 Health, -200 Action) or percentages (+20% Health, -20% Action)? Finally, while I know milk and seafood are a little tough to get, do you happen to know exactly what the Macrosodial tissues do?
There's a section on tissues in the chef FAQ stickied at the top of the forum (look for "biological component"). Did I make any serious errors in that, or anything important being left out?
I'm working towards master BE on my other account(the new cloning system sounds too fun to pass up for me, wish chefs could get something like that) so I'll answer a few questions with what I know.
From the tissues I make, all 3 stats are effected. Like with cognitive enhancers(highest mind tissue that can be made), all 3 mindstats have positive numbers and all 3 health stats have negative numbers. I don't know why I haven't tested this yet, but from past reading, only the stats listed on the final product are effected by tissues. Example: Bivoli will only get a plus to mind when a cog enhancer is added. It will not get a plus to focus/willpower or a negative to Health/strength/constitution. The plus will show up only as a larger base buff on the Bivoli, it won't show up with a plus on the final product like tailor tissue does.
By looking at SWGcraft.com, the higher up the chain I get, the more impossible the resources are. Heck, even the cognitive enhancers require wild meat and domesticated meat. But the higher level tissues take seafood or milk. That is bad for us chefs. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not gonna pay the 1000CPU for milk to make ONE item better. Seafood is even more rare than milk I think. Chefs are going to want the tissues in factory crates and ALOT of them. The cold hard facts are the beginning tissues are probably what the chefs will buy because those are going to be the only things cheap enough that we can add to the food without making it too expensive.
The good news is the revamp for chefs AND BEs is on the way which will redo the way we work together. The devs have also stated that seafood and milk will be more readily available, although I hope it is not like when they made the eggs "more available"(i.e. you can find them in stacks of 10 or so from various lairs. This is just not feasible for producing tissues in crates, which is how we need them). Hopefully the devs will chuck some of the insane requirements on BE tissues with the revamp. It also sounds as if many, if not all, foods will have the ability to take a BE tissue.

I started looking through the chef tissue schematics to pick which things to manufacture first as far as chef tissues for my soon to open store. I was getting ready to make a crate of Broad Spectrum Nutrients in a crate until I hit the major snag...seafood! It had to be the one where one of the components is difficult to get in extremely large amounts.

I'm not sure what the Macrodsodial line does exactly, but my guess since it says boosts effectiveness, I would think that if a Bivoli gives you 120 mind, for example, it would give you more than 120 mind?
