Thread: We Need Looted Schematics Too!
What's with the one star guys? Is this not a good idea?

there is only 1 issue with this, fairly major. Right now to make a single item you often need 1-6 identically serialized units of the "uber drop". 6000 identically serialized (they never come crated) units will not fit in your inventory. By every indication, the devs believe that making things in bulk, crate only, is an anomoly. If we were to get that uber drop, it will be to produce a stack or 2. If that is acceptable, then sure - press for it. I wouldn't expect anything you'd crate, though.
There's a couple options they could use, though.
1) Make the uber-food schematic not require any lootable components. As long as a schematic has a reasonable manufacturing limit (I'd think around 250-500 for consumable items), this shouldn't get too unbalancing. To make them a little more difficult to make, they could require very specific resources: Tatooinian Vegetable greens, Talusian Flower Fruit, Rorian Hard wood and Dathomirian insect meat.
2) Make the looted schematic an advancedreplacement of an existing component. I pray for the day I can do a quest and get an Aludian schematic. These should probably have a 1000 limit, though, especially when they replace components (like alcohol) that are used two, four or six at a time in a single item.
3) Combining 1 & 2, they could make the uber-drop component get looted as a schematic. So say they made Angerian Fishak a quest schematic, requiring 2 identical Aludians. You now have to quest for the second schematic. Although for that examplethey'd probably have to re-do Angerian's effect, I think Vasarian Brandy has pre-revamp Fishak beat hands down.
4) (a *very* left-field suggestion): Have the schematic require lootable components that only show up as items, but make whatever bonus the food gives you permanent. Although this would probably be far too hard to balance. My first idea was a mind-enhancing drink that gives you 10 more skill points, and can only ever be used once by a single character (never going to happen). Or another alternative would be an "ever lasting gobstopper", where the food/drink effectively has an infinite number of doses. Something like that might need to be affected by decay, though.
