Hello Chefs,

Just a quick post to announce my retirement from the chef's life and to thank everyone on the chef boards for the immense help they've been to me over the last six months of cheffing around. I had a great time as chef (made some pretty decent cash, too), I really enjoyed the instant popularity one received as a chef (especially before the patch), but most of all the friendship that chefs tend to offer to each other.

All told, I'm pleased with the direction that the profession has taken and hope that things will only improve in the future, and were it not for some pressing RL issues that will allow me less and less time to actually play, I'd continue being a chef forever, I think. I'm pleased with the changes that came with the patch, although I share Nikki's sentiment that it's less like cooking and more like assembly, given that onehas a BE to work with at all, but I'm hopeful that a balance will be reached and that sciguy's recommendations on the matter, or something similar, will be implemented in the future. That being said, I don't believe that I can serve the customer base on my server or my PA with as little time as I'm going to have, so the time has come to pass on my chef's hat to another member of my PA.

Ultimately, when I am able to come online to play, I'd like to try out some different things and be less focused on my harvesters, factories, and vendors. Once, as I was waiting on a shuttle from Rori for ten minutes, and my wife was in the room watching me play, she remarked that, "this isn't a game, this is real life." I agree, actually. Being a chef is a lot of work, especially being a good chef, and there are very few shortcuts to doing it right. That is, in my view, one of the good things about it and doesn't detract from the satisfaction of being a chef in any way - it separates those who are dedicated to the profession from those in the market to make a quick buck. My new professions, however, will allow me to play quite a bit less frequently, but more importantly, they'll get me away from spending all of my time in my house cooking, a change that I really need.

As a final thought, I'd like to especially thank Odop and Haala for their help and support on Tarquinas - you two are simply the greatest. And for the rest of you, I wish you all the best of luck and know that you have my support, for what it's worth, in the future.

Best,

Ottosek

Me: "most of all the friendship that chefs tend to offer each other."

I should edit that to say "most chefs." Seriously, though, I've got to wonder about your reply. My post wasn't meant as a vanity post, rather I meant to say good luck to a couple of people who had helped me out and to say thanks to everyone. I'm sorry if you took itany otherway. And, if you've got that much ire that you felt the need to reply that way, I might suggest some counseling, because honestly, I'm not worth it.

Registered 12-12-03? Well, you made it in before the patch anyway.

When you make a post including more than one paragraph, it's safe to assume that you can ignore anyone who replies and doesn't even form a complete sentence. Anywho, good luck you 'ya.

I fully agree that a crafting prof sometimes turns into a 9 to 5-er (or at least turns into a low paying job [-$15/month, in fact ) which is what drove me into commando after an unpleasant stint with architect (back when only a fraction of people owned houses, and 98% of people wanted them... good times)

With chef, i've taken a different approach, one might say the Dave Chapelle Show printing shop style approach ("why don't you have brandy enough for all of Talus?" "'cuz **** 'em, that's why!"). It's a necessary evil when one only has the 10 lots.

In any event, safe travels, and may L. Ron Hubbard bless your happy home (okay, so I'm not a scientologist. I could not be worse things...)

You and me both brother. I'm retiring also due to the fact that I need more time irl, and Chef took up a lot of time for me. I'll be dropping this account and working more in the GCW. Thanks chefs, road has been rocky, and I didn't get along w/ a few of you, but chef was great. Thanks Vimes for all your work. Thanks sciguy for your continued effort to make sure we got ALL the facts about the new food on Test. GL guys!
