After news like that, the smiley in your sig should go "
Oh well... I have to give up Scout so I can advance my character... Ironic isn't it - as soon as I get powerful enough to take down creatures that give a good harvest, I lose the ability to harvest... oh well.. time to make friendly with a few scouts.
...anyway - it's not all bad. There's almost no point in harvesting meat for yourself. You need about 10-20 thousand units to do a good factory run, and unless you're in a laaaarge group, it will take you about a lifetime to collect that much solo.

You can't harvest unless you have the /harvest command. Same thing with surveying. No matter how many skill points you have you still don't have the command /survey unless you have novice scout. All those numbers do is make a skill that you have better. They don't add to the skill.

So my question is if I have no scout skills and then use the new food/drink that gives you + to creature harvesting will I then be able to harvest creatures? I understand this is true with travel biscuits and terrain negotiation so was jsut wondering about creature harvesting.

hmm ... I hope so .. cause Im counting on it too ...
Although .. it would make sence for it to only work for scouts, cause youd need to have the basic skill to take advantage of the bonus ... but maybe not ,cause the aperently the only restrictions are Racial (Wookie/Trandoshan only foods/drinks) .. So I sure hope Ill be able to harvest alittle ![]()

My guess is no, but I've got a submission to the FAQ asking for clarification.
My theory is this: for skills that require a command (/survey, /harvest, /sample), a food bonus to that skill will only benefit people who have already learned the command. For "passive" skills (ones that work automatically without a command like terrain negotiation, dodge, Defense vs. X) you get the benefit even if your skill before eating the food was 0.
Now it's entirely possible that the checks for whether or not you have "learned" a command are based solely on the skill value. So with that design you'd only get the "you do not know the command /survey" when your survey skill is zero; if it's non-zero the command works. If that's true, I think Chandad would be a huge seller to medics/doctors whocould free up the 15 points they had invested in Novice Artisan simply for the survey skill.
Hmm, I may track down a non-artisan character on TC tonight, hand them some Chandad and a survey tool and ask them to try it out.
