In the Creature Handler Forum there is an idea being bounced around again about Creature structures. The main use of these structures would to hold, breed, milk, or gather eggs. There is even an idea for a structure that would hold and breed aquatic type creatures for harvest. This idea would involve support of and by other professions that could be impacted by it such and Chef, Bio-Engineer, and Architect. Chef and Bio-Engineer would be impacted since they would be able to have a ready supply of certain components that are now “very” inconvenient to obtain. Architect would be involved due to the creation of new structure schematics being added to their skill set. I wanted to get your opinions on the validity and practicality of this idea and encourage posting of your replies and ideas on the related forums.

Do you have any ideas that could possibly add weight to this? Any ideas you have would be welcome?

I seriously doubt this would ever happen. It would alter the game for scout and ranger. With the implementation of Harvest Structures, there would be no need to go out and harvest wild creatures (which happen to be the main thing that scouts and rangers are for.) It's an interesting idea, but unless they are willing to completely get rid of scout or ranger, then don't expect this to happen.

harvesting eggs and milk is different from gathering creature hides and meat, most rangers I know don't even supply milk cause it's a pain to get, I don't think a creature milk harvester would hurt their business at all, CHes could still supply the animals for milking, archs, the structure for milking, etc etc, it'd help everyone, make the animals only limited use, that way you always need a CH/ranger whatever to supply fresh animals

Speaking as a Master Ranger (Scylla) I can safely say that I would not have a problem with these farms if the creatures could not produce Hide, Meat and Bone.. As a Chef I would love something like this to produce Milk for me.

Egg's and milk were one thing which I only did for good customers and only for quite a high price.. Egg's weren't too much of a problem to get, but to get good egg's was a problem in itself. Gathering milk was justannoying and I usually ended up killing the creatures I was trying to milk out of frustration when they kept moving around..

First of all, what does a chef use eggs for? I've made at least 30+ different foods and never used them.

Milk I can see. However, this idea has been brought up time and time again. The devs solution to milk was to put in a system that is horrible to work with. The devs solution to eggs wasa to increase their stack size by 50% or so.

The biggest reason this won't happen is because new structures take a huge amount of effort. While it would be helpful(even to me), I can honestly say I wouldn't want dev resources spent on this. There are many other structures that would benefit a larger amount of people.

There is nothing wrong with the idea. There was nothing wrong with the idea 10+ months ago. The devs would need a compelling reason to make a machine to do something and remove a skill from a profession. Its much more likely the devs would double or triple output of eggs and milk. Milking might actually be done then.

This all goes back to the original Farmer class that was originally designed. The class was supposed to be a way for players to supply Eggs, Domestic Meat, and Milk to the community, among other things.

Then the class got cut, but some classes were still dependant on that class, and were out of luck.

All of the mechanics that have been introduced since are just patches to fix the hole that was left when they cut that class.

Re-introduce that class, and all of your problems go away.

I got to agree with Numen and Doesetsu.

Dev resources are better put to other things. As far as I go, I am a Chef/BE/ scout (Just for harvesting meat and such) When I get missions at the mission terminal, I look for animal missions. I go to the waypoint, stopping at any lairs that have milk producing animals on the way, mask scent, drink Jawa beer, and milk each animal, then take DNA samples for creature crafting. When I jump back on my speeder, I fly by every (I mean every) mound and click "search lair" on the way by. It does take time to build up eggs and such, but if you keep dumping new eggs into a pack to sort, it makes it worth while. I kill numerous birds (or Cu'Pa or Bantha or...erm...sorry) with one stone. I know, not too efficient, but to be honest, I gave up complaining and just do what I can with what I have.

I wanted to thank you all for your input on this. Bouncing around the forums I have found that most do not want to set on the Scout/Ranger profession by making resources like hide, bone, and meat. This structure would only allow the possible breeding and harvesting of things like eggs and milk. I and other Handlers want to add commercial value to the profession while not “adversely” affecting any other professions.

I must concur with the other Ranger that posted that I do not feel any threat from this since it would only be limited to eggs, milk, and breeding. This idea would alleviate the consistent outrageous market price on those items and give a boost to the commercial aspect of other professions. Due to recent changes in the way we are playing the game your profession is enjoying a renaissance that gives you purpose and commercial viability. Please by your support help us to do so also. If you see areas that need improvement in the idea please offer constructive comment and help to hammer it out so that when presented to the Developers that it will be a well thought out and multi profession accepted.

The only thing I can really think of using milk in bulk for anyway is Blue Milk, which most people just use as budget brandy. Given this, I'd rather just have them fix barrels as soon as possible than bother with milking creatures regularly.
