Thread: finding resources
I just reached master medic today and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good supplier or surveyor that sells some of the specific resources needed for making advanced stim components. I know I could look on the bazaar but I was hoping to find a supplier who I can trust to find the best resources. I'm on the wanderhome server so if you know anyone who can help me I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Probably a question better suited for you server forum. I know of a good supplier on Naritis, but that isn't going to help you at all :>![]()
i love being a chef, it's my favorite profession in the game.
but...i suck at resources. just plain suck.
right now it's a money problem, but when i do have harvesters, i never know where to put them. i can survey for 30 min or so and find a good 70% spot or so, but it's never good quality.
others i've seen know right when the resources change, and seem to know right where the good resources are going to be after that change happens.
what knowledge are they blessed with that i was not? how can i get good quality stuff and know when it'll change to that?
i don't even know what qualities are "good" and what are "bad". or what i should start collecting now so that i've got them when i hit master.
can anyone help me out?
Well first off, always take a sample before following the vein over hill and dale to find that 70% spot. =) With surveying IV, you canusually get a unit or two to inspect on the first or second try, even if the concentration is below 20%. I usually survey, take a sample (as long as there's something under me), and if the sample fails immediately stand up and head towards the survey waypoint until the 30 second sample timer runs out, and sample again. I find this more efficient than waiting in one place for a sample to pop out of the tool.
Second, the resource shifts are somewhat predictable. It seems to be different for different servers, and maybe for different resource categories. Try keeping a spreadsheet or something with the dates that the resource shifts out. For types like flora where there a resource always exists, this can give you a rough estimate as to how long that type tends to stick around. On Chilastra, cereal, fruit and vegetables seem to last 8-10 days before rotating out. The people who move all their harvesters immediately following a resource shift probably keep the same type of lists, allowing them to know when they need to start checking more regularly for a shift.
Third, when it comes to finding good resources, swgcraft.com is your best friend. This is a user-maintained database of resources, including their stats and the first time they were spotted. Because players handle entering data, there is some lag between the shift occuring and the resource showing up the database, especially for types that fewer crafters use (i.e. flora). If you enter in the stat percentage from the item schematic, it will even sort the resource list with the better types on top.
But be careful: there's also a lag between the resource going away and disappearing from swgcraft's database. It reported an awesome fruit this weekend on Lok, so I went there, surveyed merrily for fruit, plopped down a couple harvesters, and went away. I came back, picked up the stacks from the hopper, tried using them, and started banging my head against the desk. The great fruit reported by swgcraft had rotated out, but no one had entered that into the database before I checked. And I didn't think to compare the fruit name I was surveying for with the one in the database, so I ended up with 4-5k of PE 183, Flavor 395, OQ 305 fruit.
Good quality resourcesfor food have high Overall Quality (especially important for stack size), Flavor, Potential energy, and (somewhat) Unit Toughness. I consider the 33/33/33 in the food/drink schematics extremely suspect, although the percentages reported in Air Cake seem more like a fair representation.
I'd just like to reiterate the use of swgcraft.com. It's invaluable, and once you get used to using it, you likely won't have any problems.
I'd also like to reiterate the lag in the outer planet data...if endor has some killer fruit, then it's probably been there for 3-4 days already. If Naboo has killer fruit, it's probably only been there 1-2 days. Also, the bazaars can be your friend (sometimes). It's quicker than sampling, and if you find something you like (on a planet you like), then you can just whip out your survey tool to see what's active and whether they match. Take a screenshot and print it out, it goes pretty quick.

with all the resource shifts and different classes/types/quality/etc. i was wondering if there was a website or something that showed/told the locations of the specific resources. I play a combat medic and it is hell running all over the place looking for the specific resources needed. not only does it take awhile to find them, but it takes even longer to find good ones. any help here would be appreciated. thank you.

As a shipwright and a doc, there was a guy (cant remember his name) who ran a website that listed the current spawns of only the resources needed for that profession, copied from swgcraft. This made it easy to see exactly what was good that you actually needed at anytime. Do weaponsmiths have anything like this?
If not, does anyone know a way of organizing your resources on swgcraft to show this?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
