Thread: If you could ask the devs one question about Chef....
- All dev communication regarding digestion (including the publish 6 patch notes) has indicated 30m to go from 100 units to 0. Pretty extensive playertesting shows that this is not what's happening, the actual time (on both Live and Test) is around 45m (give or takea couple minutes). Is this actually a bug, or was there an undocumented design change? This "bug" has been around since the digestion time was decreased on TestCenter from the original 60m, around the end of January.
- The chef revamp gave us a much smaller menu of items to craft (although a much larger percentage are actually useful). SirVimes consoled us by saying that future publishes and expansions would introduce new foods and drinks. Are new foods on the development schedule, and when might we expect to see them?
The real question is: "What were the initial intentions behind the design of the chef class?" Not looking for a chef mission statment. I'd like exposition.
You know chef food is pretty powerful as is and I do not see that 45 minute timer being brought down to 30 minutes for anything at this point. I feel that is a wasted question although clearification that it is staying at 45 minutes may be helpful to some. The menu size is actually rather big. It is hard to keep everything useful in stock. The only thing missing are items that boost the third stat, i.e. will power, no one cares about the other two thanks to Docs. We have mind, focus, focus/willpower or mind/focus/willpower, but not willpower. That is the only thing I feel is lacking from the menu.
The question I see coming up a lot, and one that may be needed to be answered by them is Bespin Port. Have QA tested this internally and found that it does in fact work as intended? Can we view those numbers for ourselves?
That is top of my list, besides that whole barrel thing, which may never see the light of day.
reasons for the decrease in sales:
1) doc buffs are the way to go for action/health and the 4 secondaries that go with them. they last a lot longer, they are much more powerful, and by far more cost effective.
2) there is 1 thing that chefs sell 20x (ok maybe not that much more...but a lot to be sure) more of than anything else...mind food/drinks, if the mind pool is no longer going to be the deciding factor in fights (i.e. can't target mind pool with specials and I think stims draw on all 3 stats instead of just mind was the other major change hinted at), and doctors have the market cornered on health/action...what new foods/drinks will chefs get to compensate for the loss of our current niche in the economy/game.
Plates!
Experimentation has drastically uneven effectiveness particularly in terms of filling and so forth. Can we get that improved (not 'balanced' as that = nerfage/breaking it) so that you can actually fully experiment ALL of the lines significantly.
