This weekend I plan to create a new character who will attempt to become a chef. My question is, which other professional skills should I also pursue? I know my initial skills will be gained in the artisan arena and I assume I will also need to follow the pathway towards merchant in order to market my goods eventually. According to the posts I've read, BE is also important for a chef to provide some of the components needed for high quality foods. Any advice I could get from those of you who are successful in your profession would be greatly appreciated.

You are right, in my opinion, that you should pursue merchant. My alt is a Master Chef/Master Tailor/Novice Merchant. I think tailor is a nice fit. You can make all the trim you need for casks, and it is another domestic arts profession, so you can master all three professions. BE is nice, but you can probably find a good BE who has reasonable prices for tissues on your server.

Yea pretty good start. How far up in merchant you need to go depends on how your marketing it. If your planning on being in a busy mall you might not need global advertising. If your making your own shop, its probably a good idea(advertising 3).

As for tissues. Most of the high end chefs make BE foods. How you get the tissues is completely up to you. The 3 main choices are

1) Become a BE(a 4004 BE can produce 80-83% mediums, no possibility to create heavy nutrition). A master will take those to 82-86%.

2) Have a BE make your schematics with resources you have. Usually requires a friend or someone willing to do this for a low price.

3) buy the tissues. The issue with this one is for new chefs this is a huge drain on their bank accounts. A 40 crate run of tissues is going to cost 1.5-2.5 million credits. Thats a pretty big investment for new chefs.

Each one has its bonues and disadvantages. Theres no Best choice.

I've gotten my Medium nutrition tissues to bout 88 on my own (im Master BE as well). I think the cap is 90 on that but Im not too sure if anyone has reached or is able to reach caps. If you have tons of meat lying around and you have an abundant skillpoints that u can throw around (haha!) then i would suggest going Master BE. It really cuts your costs down, especially if you harvest your own meat w/ the help of your friends or guildmates.

Thanks for the advice. I have an alt who is master doctor. She will be able to help out some. Funny because I originally thought I'd like to do the chef thing to help out my doctor character. Now it looks like it will be the other way around! Still haven't decided on how much BE I should try for, but I guess I'll figure that out in time. Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting a new adventure.

New to the game or new to the profession? I've been around since launch and started a new character on the same server so I could be a chef/tailor. Everyone goes through a growing period when they first reach master. It is not an easy profession, given all the resource requirements. I don't think it is sad, I think it is exciting. People aren't just holo-grinding, but want to learn the profession and become good chefs. And in time they will be. Just my opinion
