Public crafting stations and the Private +40 ones
Any differences???

I may be wrong, but there are some schematics that can't be made at public stations (on some professions, not all) and th epublic ones are generally lower quality so you get less leeway for experimentation (less purple dots to fill in).

I'm pretty sure even the most complicated chef schematics can be done with a public station (if they even require a station at all). The complexity was reduced during the revamp to speed up factory production time, I think the tool/station requirements were just a side effect of that.
The station effectiveness won't change the experimentationmaximums, but there is a tendancy towards better successes (amazing vs. great, great vs. good, etc) with a higher rating. The same effect occurs with tools, too. So if you want the best odds for those amazing success schematics, use a high-rating tool (+15 is the max), a high-rating station (max +45), in a city with a research specialization, and take a shot of Bespin Port. There's still no guarantee, but with that combination I've been able to get schematics with two, sometimes even three amazing successes.
