If you're just getting into chef now, you've picked a good time. It seems to be the FOTM crafting profession, so you're in good company. The benefit to being a chef these days is that getting tapes with experimentation on them seems to be much easier. When I started, I paid 30 million for my +20 suit, and that was without the +25 assembly and +25 artisan experimentation I added later. You'll be on the high end of the spending spectrum if you pay even 20 million for a completed suit now.

my 12 pt suit cost me about.....3 mil to make

being a 12 pointer is so much easier than being a10 pointer. it means you can use the good quality resources instead of having ot use uber resources. as for cost.. its totally server dependant. your best bet is to either look on the forums or look on the vendor search. search for clothing attachments. it can take a while but i did this while looking for jedi seas and found 2 +5 for 2mil each and a +10 for 5mil. this is way better than when i started chef and got a +10 for 10mil and almost pissed my self. then i paid 6mil for a +4 skirt and got a free belt with +4 in it. overall it cost me abuot 20mil to make my suit. so just go look on the vendor search. it will be tedious and boring but you can find some great deals

Malia is right - if you're just getting into chef then you have picked a good time - right after the CU my guild was looting so many uber tapes that i didn't have to buy any of mine to get to 12pt. And yes, it will be more profitable for you in the end to get the tapes, idk how it is on your server but on mine (Bria) the 5/5 crafting aprons run from 200k-500k, i've heard several other chefs say their 12pt suits altogether cost anywhere from 10-30mill- but they've had theirs for a while (since WAY before the CU). I'd keep an eye out on the forums for ppl auctioning off the tapes, you might find something good there. Good luck

You certainly shouldnt have to pay as much, with all the looting going on, as others said.

I'm personally on Bria, and was able to buy my 12 pt suit for 8.5 million (3 +5's and an apron) and Bria has one of the most inflated economies. It's all about witnessing the trade forum at the right time

being at the right place at the right time is always good

I just completed my suit in a matter of 2 hours on the forums and vendor search, only 3000 tapes to look through, lol.

Total price 7.5 million. I was lucky and got the first 5 with the apron for 32k - stole it in my opinion, I did have to drive 2k to get it off a remote vendor but hey. A +8 tape had run through auction with no one bidding on it at 6 million so I offered 3 ingame and we settled on 4. Then it was just a matter of finding the other small pieces to get to 20.

Like everyone else has said, now is the right time to get in. I have had chef mastered for almost 3 months but haven't used it at all been to busy with all the other crafting professions I am involved in. Once I got my BE stuff rolling it was just a matter of time. Tonight I started making all the componets and maybe by the end of the week will have some stocked vendors with Chef foods.

Ideally in time you want +25 to Food Experimentation and +25 to Food Assembly ( and it does pay to have some artisan tapes too, as they are popular foods right now ).

Look around as others have suggested. Ask some guildies if they can help you, you'd be surprised they might be willing to donate a few low tapes to your cause, or a generous member may even donate a really good tape to you.

Another thing is to look at making deals. If you don't have the money right then, perhaps offer them food for a certain time to pay for it.

I built my suit by looking around for deals, and then making some great deals with some folks.

Food tapes are easier to come by than artisan ones though

you dont need +25 except for show and tell. +20 is all you need and msot o fthe timeif you go fo r +20 youll end up 21 or 22. However chef right now at least on Lowca is getting difficult. Alot of chefs trying to compete witht he big named chefs are trying to sell insanly low prices. Like 100k for BoH was the worst i saw. Its all good stuff as well. You jus tneed to get a good stock, get in a good location (can be hard) and advertise. I personally when i have nothing better to do go to MO and once every 5 minutes spam a message advertising what all i have on my vendor.
