Thread: Throw Me A Carrot
I've been waiting four months for chef to be repaired. Some people have been waiting longer. Yet from my perspective no progress whatsoever has been made to improve the profession. A dev or two has dropped by to say they're looking at the profession but this could just be lip service to keep us quiet. I've had my mouse situated, figuratively speaking, above the Surrender Skill button for weeks now. SirVimes has gotten some info but I have no interest whatsoever in vague promises. I need something to keep my interest in the Chef profession, even if it's something they have to nerf later on after the rebalancing has occurred... like an across-the-board increase of buff effect/durration, an XP requirement scale-back, or an XP gain multiplier for chef crafted items. I know there are chefs out there that have stuck through and ground your way to the top... but I have to ask, looking back, does the disproportionate work make the top seem better, or are you just glad its over with?
The basic gist of my rant here is anything that can be offered to maintain my interest in the profession would be appreciated. Please help.
Though your lack of lucidity frightens me, I agree with your sentiment.
It's time we at least heard what some speculative plans were. Caveat it all you want and we'll agree that you're making no promises. We'll even promise to ignore the more militant among us who are calling for dev heads broiled in a light cream boullion sauce.

I agree with you Miradus. I would actually like to hear about some of the changes they are "working on".
I trust SirVimes. I have no reason to trust the Devs right now, they have done very little to actually make our profession useful and compedative. SirVimes has told me that he can't tell us anything yet and that he is bothering greenmarine and thunderhart daily for some information but they arn't telling him anything and that just pisses me off.
SirVimesis the best correspondent I have had the privlage of knowing and the Devs are even dicking him around and that is just not right. For all we know the "proposed changes" are buried on Q-3PO's desk while they finish vehicles or wonder how they are going to fix the game after they introduced Holocrons.
I know patients is a virtue and that SirVimes has said that he has seen some of the proposed changes and he is really excited about them. My trust and respect of SirVimes and everything he has done for us Chef is the only thing holding me back right now.
I have faith in that SirVimes will report to us as soon as he can, I have no faith in the Devs and I will point out that today it has been three weeks since Thunderheart told us that he would have an update on the exciting new changes that were happening in chef and still not a single nod in our direction (except for fixing a food schematic on TC that needs milk so we can't make it anyway and it will prolly be removedseeing as they are redoing 89 schematics
. Talk about useless).
I think it is also very telling of the the SWG player community when the devs come out with an update and all the first responses are "bout time" or "you fixed that but this is still broken" and they used to be all "thank you" and "your the greatest!".
We as a player community are getting tired of being treated like mushrooms (being kept in the dark and having BS thrown on us occasionally)
I like everyone, likes to hear more updates and see more plans before they are put into action. I'm sure that SirVimes will update us when he can, and I trust him.
While the power/duration (duration being infinitely more important) balance issues will probably come to pass, I really wouldn't hold my breath on the XP issues. Given that a holo hunter can do the whole profession in 2-3 days of grinding it's really not that bad for the rest of us. (Old man grumbling) Back in my day, we could only pull organics with rate 2 harvesters and we didn't have the 'practice' function. We had to delete every wastril bread we made and we liked it! (well not really, but things have gotten better).
Observation: I love how the language filter catches p..o..k..e..m..o..n but not 'dicking'
SirVimes' representations that it is worth hanging around a while to see the upcoming changes has been enough to keep me interested in the Chef Profession, at least for a while. That of course will not last forever, but my frustration level is only about 83% right now, which is down from about 105% a few weeks ago.
A nice post by a dev giving us some general understanding of the changes that are being proposed would take it down into the 50s....
