I'm a very new Chef, so forgive me the stupid question here

What do the 3 different sized Chef additives do? I can see the requirements and results of the BE additives & it all (kinda ) makes sense to me, but I don't seewhat the Chef additives actually do to benefit the foods.

Can someone explain this in layman's terms please?

They lower the filling (how much you can eat/drink), nutrition (buff size), duration, and quantity. You can put on additive in the food/drink and depending on food, it can take a light, medium, or dark. A light is good, medium is better, and heavy is best.

Thats pretty layman

I am a little confused by what you are asking....

You know when people talk about BE additives and Chef additives, they are talking about the same thing, right?

Well you can't really "Versus" the Chef additive with the Be additives because you are supposed to use the BE additives INSIDE the chef additives. In the revamp foods that I have made, you cannot put the BE additive directly into the food, you must first put it inside a Chef additive and THEN you can put it in food.

The BE "biological components" have four types (filling, nutrition, flavor, quantity) each type having three sizes (light, medium, heavy). A chef takes those, adds water to make an "additive" (which has to be the same size as the bio component). The additive inherits whatever filling/nutrition/flavor/quantity bonus of the original bio component, but cannot itself be experimented on. That additive can then be used in a food with a slot for the additive's size or larger (so a medium additive can be used in foods with either a medium or heavy additive slot).

So a BE makes a Heavy Nutrition tissue/bio component/additive (I'm still not sure what terminology they use) with an effectiveness of 225 (a made-up number that's probably close to if not over the actual max Nutrition bonus). A Master Chef purchases it and creates a Heavy Additive using 20 water and the biological component. That chef then creates a Vagnerian Canape, and includes the additive in the Canape's optional "Heavy Additive slot". Vagnerian Canape normally has a buff range of 225-350, but with the additive the buff size is 325% bigger (100% from the base food, plus 225 from the additive). The Canape can now be experimented from +731 Mind/Focus to +1138.

The BE additives will definitely allow foods to have some serious power, but do require focusing on a single attribute, since you can only use one additive. The resource requirements for the BE tissue/bio component/additive also mean that these are unlikely to be used in factory runs.

Great answer sciguyCO! I question you on that last sentance though.

In the case you give, let's assume:

Normal = +470 Focus/Wil, 4 min duration, 81 filling, 6 quantity.

And you add the buff to make it in the range:

Buffed = +731 - +1138 Focus/Wil, 4 min duration, 81 filling, 6 quantity.

In that case, which is better (compared to the original:

+731 with 10 quantity (total buff per stack = 7310)
+1138 with 6 quantity (total buff per stack = 6828)
or +731 with 50 filling (just a fer-instance), you can eat two at once = 1462 buff per pair use.

I think the the BE additives may end up opening up other areas to research. I.e. the bonus with the additive removes the requirement to research that particular area.

This is quite cool - so many alternatives!

Well, lets throwout some more numbers. Let's reduce the additive to a medium, since Ezran provided some numbers for those. I'll stick to the 50% point of the ranges:

Base Canape: +287 Focus/Willpower, 12m,40 filling (rough estimate), stack of 7

Additive1: Nutrition 100 (gives +574 buff, rest same as base)

Additive2: Filling 40 (gives 24 filling, rest same as base)

Additive3: Quantity 250(gives stack of 24, rest same)

Additive4: Flavor 40 (gives 16m48s duration, rest same)

Eating until full:

Base Canape: +574 (can eat 2), 12m buff, 12m downtime until empty after buff wears off, stack lasts 3.5 times.

Additive1: +1148, 12m buff, 12m downtime, stack lasts 3.5 times.

Additive2: +1148 (can eat 4), 12m buff, 16.8m downtime, stack lasts 1.75 times.

Additive3: +574, 12m buff, 12m downtime, stack lasts 12 times.

Additive4: +574, 16m48s, 7m24s downtime, stack lasts 3.5 times.

The buff per stack isn't quite as important as the downtime and the max buff you can have on.The flavor additive may be useful for these high filling / low duration foods, since that would reduce the downtime. A nutrition additive is probably more attractive than a filling additive, since you get the same result with a doubled buff as a halved filling, but stacks of filling-enhanced foods get chewed through twice as fast. And in this case, you ended up being more full (4 24 filling vs. 2 40 filling), leading to more downtime. Although experimentation on filling with the additive may get you down to 20, allowing for a +1435 buff by eating 5.

The quantity additive might help our profit margins, since we could charge 3x as much for a stack 3.5x as big (making it more cost-effective to the customer) with the addition of 25 organic, 20 cereal, 20 wild meat and a BE. Of course, having to do these in crates would make for more work on the resource gathering side, which would probably make this ending up being a wash.

Looks like the wording in my question was a bit off

Phazon has the answer was looking for though (I think). The food additives in the Chef tree don't have any stats, so I was wondering what their function was. Now I understand that you have to make an additive to put the BE additive into, before assembling the food.

(Typing additive too many times in one post hurts my brain )

Does the stats on the Water matter? I would think so but I am not on TC.

Any old water will work. Only experimenting that matters for additives is the BEs responsibility. After that, a chef adds a little water and hes done.
