If there are going to be 4 charcters per server for each person i dont see how someone can make a game outta grafting because most people will have a crafter alt or a close friend with a crafter alt.

that's odd. Tiggs posted that you'll only have 1 char slot unless you have a Jedi.

Thank god?! WTH?!

Why would you NOT want an extra character slot if they're locking you into a profession once you've made it?! As far as I'm concerned, if you can't make another character to counteract this setback, then screw this game!

Well i just dont want to be be screwed as a crafter is all. It also depends on how hard it is to change professions in the new system. If it only takes a short time to change then 1 slot per server is fine but if it takes months then they should open up slots for people.

Okay, maybe the guy up above wasn't clear. You cannot change your profession in NGE! Only current players of SWG will get these 9 respecs so they can try all the classes (I can no longer call them professions with these changes) before choosing which one to lock their character into, permanently.

Having only one slot REALLY hurts the new player. What happens if they don't like the class they picked? They can't just roll up a toon in another slot (although they can do so on another server and be out of touch with any friends they have made or RL friends that may be on their main server) to try out another class, they have to DELETE their toon and start over. The ability to surrender a class has not been announced, but I seriously hope they keep it in.

Thats dumb. Its like they are taking away everything SWG lets you do that other games dont. SWG has always been a game where you can change professions easily I guess i was just expecting it to stay that way.

/agree.

Maybe we can swing this suggestion:

1) Players want to be able to keep their name, items, contacts, character history, etc.

2) The code for a respec is already in NGE. From how it currently sounds, you pick a new class (I agree that "profession" no longer really applies), and you are converted from your current class to the new class at the same level. When coming from entertainer / trader classes, your new level is based on the skill points spent in the old class.

3) Implement a permanent "zero point" respec option. This can be a slash command, a terminalor NPC, an item, whatever. Using this triggers a respec that acts as if you have no skills / levels in the originating class. So you completely swap careers, have to start from scratch, but still keep parts of your old life.

Here's another "gotcha" that may sneak up on the devs with the "single character per server, cannot change class with re-rolling a new character". Pilot and Politician still sound like they're going to be zero-point profs that any class can take up. If you have to re-roll a new character, you not only have to restart a new class, you also have to re-grind your pilot / politician skills. And for politicians, a city's mayor is tied even more strongly to their current class than other players (since it's probably safe to assume they don't want the city to die).

It's decent for crafters, but i think the truth is that even if each player were to get, say, 4 slots, very few would pick up trader/crafter/whatever to craft their own goods, simply because it's too much work. Big benefit of multiple accounts is that since you can't (at least as far as i can tell) switch classes if you get bored, you can play a second class if you want to and are not stuck with just 1 option to play without buying a 2nd account. I think this (worried about economy) may be the reason devs only want 1 char per account, but TBH i think its a horrible idea and is being looked at as a bigger issue than it is. Most MMOs allow for multiple chars because of class limitations, which is a proven way to allow players to have diversity even when they can only choose one class

From what I'm hearing, I'm not at all impressed with the way that the crafting tree is being changed. It sounds like there are four separate branchs, without mix-and-match. This is some of the information I'm going to be especially looking for. What will happen with the cross-profession items that now become cross-branch, such as trim, synthetic cloth, reinforced fiber panels, and the master artisan components?
