Ok, just to make sure everyone's up to date:

1) The /harvest ability is gone. Mainly becuase scout is gone (and ranger appears to have morphed into "Spy").

2) However, once a creature is dead, you can loot it's corpse. The looted items can be "creature parts" (glands, eyes, stomach) along the same lines as the stuff you currently get from creatures on Kash and Mustafar. These appear to be solely a "credit source" from creatures (who probably wouldn't be carrying credit chips on them) since the only use I've found for them is to sell to junk vendors.

3) There's also a chance that the loot contains resource stacks. The resources lootable from a given type of creature are the same as what you can currently harvest off that type.

4) Any class can now get resources, it does not require scout abilities.

So creature resources can still be obtained in the NGE. Of course, it's still not clear what effect this will have on the quantity of resources coming into the game (and this may be what you're really worried about). Right now,a player with scout / ranger can head to Dath and focus solely on gathering leathery hide from rancors. Post-NGE, they'll also end up with stacks of eyes, brains, glands, carnivore meat, and bones. I also haven't been able to really get a feel for how "looted" resources will scale with creature level. Since my TC character is a CL 1 trader, I've been stuck going after tame rills and kreetles, which have been giving 5-10 units per kill (when I get any at all). I think this may be equivalent to what you /harvest on Live, so it's likely that a single looted stack of meat from a CL 80 rancor would be the 2-400 units you can get on Live.

After the NGE,a single player may or may not be able to gather as many creature resources as a single player can now. But there will be more players gathering resources. Well, potentially gathering resources. I talked to a few players on TC with combat profs, and the answer I usually got was "I don't bother looting critters". Hopefully we can push the combat player community to change that attitude, otherwise they'll start hurting for items requiring good creature resources.

For all of the chef's here that were not AS or DOC pre CURB1, I want to put each and every one of you on notice of my expectation in the POST CU2 world concerning my expectations for high quality meat/hide drops.

I was a pre-curb1 crafting doc. I customarily paid up to 350 cpu for the best avian meat for buff packs. Some AS paid as much as 1,000 cpu for the best wooly spawns. Given the quantiity of foods the larger chefs put out, there is no way that random loot drop "harvesting" will ever come close to producing the quantities that can be gathered today, even with every combat character having the ability to harvest. Remember xp is gained more through questing now than through killing mobs aimelessly so there will be even less supply.

Be prepared to have to invest well over 100 cpu now. Think you can use resource deeds? There aren't enough of them around to fill your demand unless they greatly increase the quantity in the deed (not likely).

Regards and good luck

Seeing as no one can make tissues anymore how much meat will you really need? Armor doesn't decay, don't need that much hide.

Milk for bantha butter may be an issue. Hide for synsteak. We are assuming that food will even be useful at higher levels. From what I am seeing on the stats probably not. Also you get to eat one food item at a time. Calling chef all butdead now unless some changes are made.

One other thing to note on this subject. It used to be all the group members could harvestthe samecreature. Now it is like NPC's and only one group member will get the "loot". This is going to limit even further the amount available.

Also, since you're now going to be Chef/Tailors you might want to know that tailors go through a lot of hide.

As for the decay issue...... I still can't believe that they'll leave it that way long. But, who knows.

Dumbing down combat so people can get nearly right into the action is one thing.

Dumbing down crafting will decay the game from the inside out. Crafting is almost a sub game of the combat game. It is just totally retarded to think of this image:

A Scout....

A Dead Piket....

...."well Bob I managed to LOOT some bone from this massive Piket....even though there is huge flanks of meat there too !"
