Thread: Artisan Experimentation... needed?

I'm trying to evaluate how to use my skill tree. I know we do not need to make master artisan before moving on to Chef (i.e. we only need Domestic Arts IV); however, I have heard two different stories:

1. We need Artisan Experimentation and Artisan Assembly points from the Engineering I-IV line.

2. The Engineering I-IV line is useless to us and a waste of points since we have Food Experimentation in the Chef lines.

Which is true? I don't want to waste experience and skill points on Engineering if I don't have to.

Thanks!

I would get engineering 1 and that is it...the rest may help but you don't need it.

No you don't need Engineering I, but it comes with some good tools.

I had also posted this on the general forums and got an overwhelming "no you don't need the engineering line" response

With engineering 1, you can make a crafting tool that specializes in food and chemical. If you use this tool near a public food station, you get bonuses to your foods.

But that is the only reason you would need Engeering 1. If you have a friend with Engineering 1 you can go that way also.

that doesnt' seem like a good reason to spend 2 skill points though. i just had a friend of mine give me a food and chemical tool. =) btw, do some foods later on require me to use those huge food and chemical crafters?

Yes, when you become a chef, even the basic food you can make require a specialized crafting tool, the Food and Chemical crafting tool. Eventually some food will require you to use a station as well as a specialized crafting tool. The manual and Holocron even say that some food dishes will require a private crafting station over a public crafting station.

You can also use the other items in the Eng 1 to generate general crafting xp faster than you might with the domestic arts tree.

And you can always get the 2 skill points back later. You won't miss them until you are much higher up.

true true.

loski, what do you mean by private crafting tool?? so we have to end up owning our own crafting station to make some of the more advanced foods?

am I the only person that see the value of owning my own harvestors? They are in the engineering line...

Yes, EATENG. I imagine it is only stuff at Master Chef level or maybe some of the items at level 4 in a skill path. SWG is meant to be interdependent on the professions. No one profession is supposed to be able to pursue their profession without the help of another profession. Now one character might be able to do their own profession on their own, like a chef who is also an architect would be able to make his own factories and big harvesters. So the idea is that one day you are going to have to own your own store, sell your supplies from that store, use your own crafting station to make the hardest food items, etc.

Ultimately the bazaar is too limiting. You can only put up like 25 items. An item can only sell for 3k at most. So eventually you will need your own place to sell the bigger things. Now maybe one stack of food won't ever go above 3k, but it is very likely that players will get tired of buying food in stacks of 10. They will want to buy 100 at a time, which requires you to use a factory and then you are probably going to want to charge more than 3k.

Of course with buildings you can share. Maybe create a bistro with a stage. Serve your guests dinner. Have a musician playing in the background. A Food and Chemical Crafting Station in the kitchen area. Dancers walkingaround as well, serving the food to the guests, in between their shows.
