Thread: Should food be more or requirement?

I am an aspiring chef, and have been checking this forum a lot and checking the trends in game. It seems like to me that there isn't too much incentive to be a chef other than the fact you may enjoy making food. Since food isn't any kind of a requirement, and most travel groups I see, have medics running around with them to aid their stats, there is no real demand for food.

Food would perhaps be more marketable if it actually looked like you had a Jawa Beer with you at the cantina, or if a chef could set up some kind of buffet like market on counters. Even this aesthetic would make players more likely to buy food, which is why tailors seem even better off, because people enjoy the aesthetics.

Seems kind of silly to me that some careers are are so incredibly lucrative (architect, weaponsmith) and others its hard to make a dime to make up for the resources you had to get.

I guess I just feel like this game was meant to encompass all interests, whether you want to be a fighter or a builder, but it really neglected some of us who want to build "normal" things andour careers arejust not vital to the game.

Just what I think, I am interested in reading other people's thoughts.

Oops should have proof read it, I mean "Should food be more of a requirement".

Also, I dont mean that characters should die of starvation upon an empty stomach, but what if it was much harder to heal any attributes without food, I mean a medic can't cure a man from starving.

And I also don't mean that chefs should be making 1 million credits and doing tv shows, but just make it more competitive with the other careers.

I wish every item a chef could make was as usefull as a Starshine Suprise. Before the resource switch I was able to make some of them with 8 uses,or some that would last up to 9 minutes. 9 minutes of practically NO action pool loss is fantastic. The best item by far I can make.

The hard part is that very few people know that stamina affects your action regeneration rate, and even less know what a +100 to the stat for 6 or 7 minutes will do.

Most of the other stuff I'vemadeseems to bejunk though. Buffing the heatlh, action, mindpools have little difference so any items that buff those stats and nothing else are almost automatically junk. But what really sucks is that I don't even need to be a chef to make my best item. It's in the domestic arts line!

Here I am a novice chef. Tens of thousands of XP into the tree. My best item, my crowning achievmentin this "elite" proffesionso far is something in the domestic arts line.

There is some +80 or so stamina bread I can make, but to get it anywhere near as good as a Starshine Suprise I will need like 100,000 XP into the chef experiment skill line. It's almost ridiculous.

Loski,

I definitely think food has it's uses, and in some instances it could be very helpful, but for every experienced player whoMIGHT use food regularly, there are 20 noobies who wouldn't take a second look at you, yet all groups of people are willing to spend thousands on guns and houses. In the other forums I have read lots of responses from other players regarding food, and most of them just don't eat it because there is no requirement for it.

I am personally losing money on my pursuits to become a chef, I can't sell enough food or at a high enough price in order to make a profit and maintain my flora extractors. I'm lucky that my boyfriend also plays as a Marksman and brings me back the money he makes from missions. However I dont think most people have that kind of cash support.

Either way I will continue to pursue chef, as I enjoy making food, but I don't know how long my enjoyment of making food will last when it's always beaten down by the knowledge that I am making no money, and the aspects that my career is not all that valuable.

First off I think it will take time for everyone, including chefs, to understand the full implications of what food can do. I was doing a little testing of some food. I have a low skilled dancer friend. She uses a lot of action as she dances, eventually needing to rest. I made some Starshine Sunburst(?), stamina drink, and Dust Crepes, stamina food. Stamina determines how fast you regain your action pool. She was doing her normal dances and her action pool was staying full, which was awesome.

I'm thinking this is going to be the easiest and first use of our food. Helping someone boost their regen stats. With a large supply of these foods, my dancer friend could have kept on going all night, and could have done a massive number of flourishes in a row. This would help her to get xp quicker. A similar thing could be done for surveying. Boost your stamina and willpower to increase the rate you regain your pools.

Another route to go, or even in addition, is to boost your stats that determine the cost of doing different things. It costs me 168 points to survey. Imagine ifI could boost my quickness and focus so that it only cost me 100 points to survey. Boosting the actual HAM pools seems to be of limited use right now. Maybe it won't be if we can eventuallycreate foods that boost health, strength and constitution at the same time and last like 5 minutes. That health boost would give medics more room to heal, a greater safety margin. From playing other MMORPGs, I know that boost hit points always helps keep you alive in general and especially when you have healers around.

Chef , well I think its more of a suport class then a crafter

in my opinion your in there with the medics and the entertainers.

The way I look at it Chef will need to be a active suport class in a good fighting group.

You might see chefs staying back in camp rolling up the buffs as the rest of the group fights. where mostlikely a Architech won;t be able to actively be helping there group.

Also , by the end of the game Chef will be the crafter people will always need , sence food only lasts that few uses ..

Again other crafters will be out of the loop once the warriors have aquired there best gear the chef will be able to sell there best buffs over and over and over.. like a bunny with a drum

I think there are still a lot of balancing issues going on and eventually things will get better. Merchants are having similar problems ofplayers not using them.

Since I believe most playersare into the other professions (combat/medic/architect etc..)they will focus on those first and then get to us.

Bummer for now but it will come. I think we will see good patches and bad ones. Its how loud we yell that will make the difference on how fast we get satisfaction.
