Thread: Some ideas to improve Chef profession

I recently jumped into Chef on Gorath, and I am disappointed by a number of things:

The first thing I noticed was that producing foods not in the domestic arts tree don't give cooking experience! This is very silly, since that leaves only 6 things we can make for exp, only 1 of which is any good. Once a player becomes a novice chef, producing the old foods should give cooking experience.

The second thing was that food is basically useless. A bonus of +50 something for 5 minutes is not going to appeal to anyone. I think food buffsshould last a minimum of an hour (especially since it takes that long to digest). Even if the bonuses are small, people will be interested if they last that long.Entrees should give small bonuses for a long time, while drinks and desserts should provide larger bonuses for shorter. By chef levels II and III, food should provide significant bonuses (+100to 200 on a couple stats) for a long time (2 - 3 hours), and by level IV they should provide HUGE bonuses, but be very difficult to make.

Finally, it would also be cool if food could provide temporary skill bonuses in addition to stat buffs. For instance, +10 rifle accuracy for an hour or so. Theseperks could be dependent on special ingredients from rare plants and animals. This would make foods more desirable, make special foods rarer and more valuable, and make being a chef more fun all around.

I predict that by the time you reach cooking 4 you can even make novice chef stuff with +300 stat bonuses with the extra experimentation points. And also, food tends to digest fairly fast. If I give someone a stack of wastril bread they eat 2, and after 5 minutes they can eat the last one. I've found people can eat a stack every 10-15 minutes.

Chef is bad at novice, but take some time to learn experimentation.

Just a heads up, but novice weaponsmith also makes worse weapons then a fully experimented CDEF... funny isn't it. The way my guilds weaponsmiths went was to level up to the weapon they wanted to make, then level up the experimentation skill. I'm doing the same thing: I levelled Mixology up to mix II, and am now grinding out cooking.
