Thread: The bug report to end all bug reports.

Is the bug reporting system up yet? Or is it stalling on the 40MB of tga screenshots I'm sending? I didn't notice the huge size of those until after I clicked "send bug"...

Since the stat bug has yet to be listed in Q's updates, I decided to give them a step-by-step way to recreate it, along with screenshots of my character sheet at each stage. And since the external bug reporting tool had .tga files in their "recommended attachments" that's what I set the screenshot option to.

Oh, and the stat bug on the update list is definitely not the one we've been seeing. Yes, we know HAM buffs now add to both the current and max values leading to possible incap if you take damage before the buff wears off. Try adding a second buff while the first is still in effect and watch the secondary stats which aren't supposed to take "damage".

So how do you think this looks? The bug report may time out (or not be working on my server), I may get a chance to edit it tomorrow, I'm going to leave it running while I now go to bed.

And in testing this, I did come across a possible workaround. If you eat a food with a negative to the reduced stat, when the negative wears off you should be back up to normal.

When multiple buffs are applied so that they are "on" at the same time, any stats affected by the second (or third, or more) adds only to the stat's maximum, not the current. When the buff wears off, the buff is subtracted from both the current and the maximum, the net effect is that your current stat is reduced by the amount of the second buff. For HAM pools, this is not a big deal, since those heal up based on your regeneration, but the secondary stats remain at the lowered value. And these are not considered wounds, so they cannot be healed by a medic or by waiting in the medcenter.

An example:
Character stats: 500 stamina, 665 mind, 483 focus, 360 willpower.
I tested eating a Stewed Gwouch (+91 stamina ). The displayed stats were:
Stamina: 591/591
Mind: 665/665
Focus: 483/483
Willpower: 360/360

I then ate an Ormacheck (+60 mind, +60 focus, +60 willpower). This added only to the maximum of those stats. Immediately after eating it, the stats displayed were:
Stamina: 591/591
Mind: 665/725
Focus: 483/543
Willpower: 360/420

The mind pool eventually healed up to 725. When the Gwouch wore off, the stamina reduced back to 500/500. Then when the Ormachek wore off, all the secondary mind stats lost 60 on both the current and maximum values:
Mind: 665/665 (since it had regenerated naturally up to 725, subtracting the 60 from the Ormachek put it at the correct value)
Focus 423/483
Willpower: 300/360

These reduced stats are not a display bug, the lowered focus caused the image design skill (eye color) to use more mind points. At the normal level of 483 focus, that skill uses 89 mind points. After the buffs wore off and the focus displayed 423/483, that skill used 94 mind points.

I have attached screenshots of my character sheet at the various stages: Initial stats with no buffs applied, after eating just Gwouch, after both Gwouch and Ormachek were eaten, after Gwouch has worn off but Ormachek still working, and the final stats after both buffs wore off.

This error seems to occur when any buff (food, drink, spice, doctor, or entertainer) is applied when a previous buff is still in effect.

I also tested this using two doses of Tatooine Sunburn (each gives +1817 strength, +1817 stamina, -84 focus). The stat progression was the same (the second added only the maximum). After the second sunburn wore off, both my strength and stamina were at 150, but my focus had regained it's normal value of 483. It seems that after the second focus was applied, it was at 315 (483 - 84 - 84). When the buffs wore off, I regained 85 focus for each sunburn, leaving me at the normal level.

I've only been making food lately, not eating it until last night, so it was only then that I noticed this. And it SUCKS. I'm also an aspiring doctor, and I was in the med center last night trying to heal the influx of patients that suddenly burst through the door. My mind got so low that I thought, gee, maybe I should eat some willpower enhacing food, so I quickly whipped up a batch and chowed down. Imagine my surprise five minutes later, when my mind is completely drained and slowly ... s l o w l y ... healing its way up. I pulled up my character stat sheet and ascertained what was going on.

Our profession is so looked over and so ignored by the devs that this bug SUCKS for us. Our buffs aren't that great in the first place, and when we have "downers" from them, NO ONE is going to want to buy the food until its fixed. It's very unfair and something that needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY.

You know, I think there might be two different bugs going around. When I first started tracking the food bug it was only with one food, but similiar results. Maybe there are two bugs doing the same thing.

I believe this bug has been fixed on the test center, although I admit I have only been trying it with one piece of food at a time. In case it isn't, I cut and pasted this report to someplace I know the developers will read it.

Thanks for all the work!

Thanks for passing this on, SirVimes. I may have come off a bit ranty, but it was late and I had been picking up unsuccessful sales from the bazaar all night. And sheesh, "bug report to end all bug reports"? What kind of ego trip was I on?!?

If you want the screenshots to pass along, drop me a PM or post here, I can zip them up tonight and put them somewhere for download. Or if there's a way for me to look up a bug number of the one I submitted (it did eventually go through), so your devcontact can look through those if he/she wants.

And if you could check the double-buff bug on test center, that'd be swell.
