I can see controversy still rages over whether the update is a good thing
My last chef was played at the time when buffs would stick negatively once they wore off. My food gave people +100 for 10 mins then -100 till they logged out.
I think I was fairly patient but I eventually cracked - it was an especially horrible time to start a chef
So far with the new update my most striking impression is how easy it is now to make a big impression on the way up. My Novice Chef was on a Nightsister hunt where everyone was doc buffed. Offering people damage reduction food and attack accuracy food gave me the novel feeling not simply of being a poor man's doc but of genuinely contributing in the field on a tough hunt
The profession and the business have clearly changed. Where before there was nothing to get excited about until 0024 now you really have an impact right from Novice Artisan
I think that there is a big new market for food from a section of the public who have not traditionally bought food. Players who dont have money really like Bofa treats which at 10 cpu would cost 110 - a genuine budget alternative to Doc buffs
I can see that the changes are bad news for previously successful Masters catering to a core of elite PvPers. But frankly there is almost no chance that huge stocks of uber, BE-enhanced food will glut the market
And there are other customers, other markets
I really think food and drink is going to be much more widely used now instead of being a luxury buff for doc-buffed muoned power gamers
Even the little window helps I think - you can now see you're getting a bonus
