Thread: Problem with buffing HAM...
Ok I was shot down in SirVimes post about what should we buff. I mistakenly said that "everyone agrees" when what I meant was "In my post on this earlier, most people agreed". IF you didn't post in my earlier post then I wouldn't have known you disagree and since this IS a chef forum, I assumed that if more than 50% who posted agreed it was a consensus. Taking that back, let me tell you what I was trying to say:
Medics can heal more than 3.5k in one shot. I don't even know any characters with 3.5k of life (I assume this is more for CH's) but they can. Smugglers can make spices that increase HAM stats by 1k or more, and no it doesn't incap you when you come down from it (lose the stats). So really, how are we supposed to compete in the market of HAM stats when there are 2 classes that already do it quite well? The biggest thing people say is to buff us even MORE than them. Uh... guys do you WANT to get smacked with the nerf bat? I mean, if we are the uber elite class for buffs, we WILL get nerfed because they don't want any classes better than others. The problem is, with 3 professions that can provide buffs, all competing for the same type of buff, someone is bound to come out the loser, and right now thats us. But what happens when we are the winner? It will be a constant cycle of winning/losing. The only way to get out of the power struggle is to leave this altogether. LEAVE them with their HAM bonuses.
Now my earlier suggestion was to boost secondary stats only and the same person who shot down my first comment shot down this second one as well saying that we need to appeal to the combat market. Well I hate to say this but THAT is YOUR opinion. Sure it may be a bigger market but this whole game is NOT about combat professions. Look at ID or the Furniture tree of Architect. And yes some people have gone those routes without and hidden combat motives. I don't think that furniture will be giving them any combat bonuses or healing them extra (it doesn't). Chef could be one of these roles that is not entirely combat oriented (I know, hard to think about).
Besides, you misunderstood what I was saying. High level weapons usually are crafted for damage NOT for HAM usage. So they eat a lot of HAM. Heck, my stupid scout pistol I have right now has decent damage but it easts my HAM too fast. Sure medics can heal it, but EVERYONE is using a weapon in combat so really its not efficient for him to run around healing everyone who MIGHT get hit just because their HAM's are goin down due to weapons. However, if their secondary cost stat was high, this self inflicted damage would be negligable, and the medic could stay on whoever is getting hit more directly rather than worrying about some stray shot knocking out someone who has just been in combat too long. Also, secondary stats are usefull for kiting which is still something done a lot in combat. If a player is being attack by a mob and has to run, the medic is going to have problems healing him (assume maybe he is still in cooldown). If he runs, the obviously is not going to be getting healed too easily, but if his secondary regen stat was high, he might be able to survive long enough to make a second pass by the medic (to get constantly healed) or for the rest of the party to take out the creature.
Now i can already hear what people are saying. "What use are secondary stats? They are too weak." Well secondary stats are weak because they are insanely low to begin with. When I first heard that spices increased HAM by over 1k I was like "wow thats insane!" but then I realized it didn't matter as later on it would be usefull. Now take this situation in reverse. We can now justify the increasing of secondary stats by insane amounts because we know it will be usefull and our Chef Profession NEEDS usefullness. for instance, what if your Stamina could be boosted by 1000? As an entertainer, you could dance for a VERY long time with hardly any hit to your Action bar. What about 1000 to your Constitution? You would heal so fast in combat that save for 1 hit kills, you would be near to unstoppable. See what I mean? You guys have to think outside the box, not these measily 150 to secondaries but REALLY HIGH to secondaries (1k might even be too low, i don't know as I never had a Constitution that high).
Speaking of outside the box, I would like to whole heartedly agree with the pereson who recomended skill increases by foods. I don't have any suggestions as to how it would work but my point in all of this is to get the Chef class OUT of the HAM rat race because its already been done twice and better. We need to hit fields that cannot be competed in by anything other than a Chef, making our class EXTREMELY usefull. We need inginuity, not super buffs so that we are better than everyone else at what they already do. Do you guys get my point now?
I just wanted to amend that I have talked with a Smuggler buddy of mine and 1k spices is more like spice as it is a single spice that adds to health and does NOT stack. However, that still leaves us to compete with the medics (I find that the smuggler pro/cons seem to be rather balanced actually knowing this). Medics however are still VERY effective at healing HAM. I still go with secondary stats, skill bonuses or some other non related bonus.
One suggestion might be resistance bonuses as those have hardly been touched except by armorsmiths. Maybe a few mild buffs there?
A huge difference between Chefs and Doctors on the buffs:
A Chef supplies food, the customer eats it whenever they get hungry and enjoy the stats gained. You can sell food on your vendor, and the customer can easily stop by and pick up whatever they need whenever they need it.
A Doctor applies buffs, the customer has to be within 7 meters of the Doctor, it can only be done in a hospital / campsite / near a medical droid, and while they do last for a long time they drop when you die or travel on a shuttle. Purchased meds are useless to 99% of the population, since you need Advanced Wound Treatment to apply them, so sales via your vendor are miniscule.
Doc buffs are stronger than Chef in the head to head comparison of stats boosted, but they have a lot of limitations on them as well which make them less versatile.
- Manii Names
- Chef and Doctor, Mistress of Amazing Buffage!
Because secondary stats dont need to be buffed that much..
A doctor can give you +1500 too all your secondart stats besides focus and will power you done need anymore then that
also too the doctor buff post
Chef buffs should be beter then doctor buffs once the chef is getting up too master his short duration buffs should be the same or beter
People can carry food with them true , but they have the Food and Drink bar limitation which is just as bad as the doctor needing to be near or the spices side effects
if you eat completly full with 2 mins buffs you have to wait like 20 mins before you can eat those same buffs again even though the buffs only lastedd say 2 mins
