Thread: Question about marketing...
So with this in mind how do you market your foods? Do you just sell the highest level foods with the biggest single use impact, or do you market weaker foods and tell the user eat a bunch you'll get more out of it than buy this expensive one?
When I sell Stim B's I've found that users were more impressed with the largest single use effect. Stims have the drawback that you can only use them once every six seconds (at Novice Medic, it drops to three seconds and Master Medic), in combat these delays are deadly so this single shot desire makes sense. Foods don't have this time delay drawback, and normally aren't use in combat so these delays wouldn't really be an issue.
On a side note has anyone tried selling Action/Health/Mind buffs as an alternate to stims for healing? Since the added part of the HAM is filled, after eating/drinking the buff you aren't fully healed but you do have more HAM. Its not a great substitute, but it works without taking up 15 skill points for Novice Medic.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm still new to the profession and trying to learn what works and what doesn't.
I try to do both. On everything I sell, I always try to put the "serving size" into the description, basically how many you can eat before getting full. This gives some sense as to what benefit the customer can get on lower level foods. For example, Ormacheck only gives +110 or so to all three mind stats, but you can eat two. Those combined with a fishak and an Ice Blaster gives a pretty decent blue buff.
Now, I was also going to say that the higher buff foods are handy for "healing" the HAM pools during combat, but you beat me to it. For health, I've always got a couple stacks of Vayerbok (Flameout would give more health, but I don't like the mental negatives) and thakitilo. For Mind, Fishak and Bivoli. For action either a Thundercloud, or a sunburn and let the 2000+ stamina take care of the regen.
What about the Buffs as a healing option? I assume no one gave that much of a look, I have been using Bespin Port for a mind heal for a while. The 300-500 extra points it gives me isn't a great buff (Dancers have the Buff market there) but having that much healed gave me the extra few heals I needed to see the party through a tough scrap. Didn't know if anyone had tried other similar methods.
One question on that subject, lets say I'm at 200 of 1000 mind. I drink a Bespin port and get a 400 point buff, so now I'm at 600 of 1400. If no change happens to my mind and the Buff wears off will I drop to 200 of 1000 again, or will I think be at 600 of 1000? Not a priority for anything, just curious. Odds are by the time the Buff wore off I'm either dead or the battle ended so I'm not too concerned (at the very least I've probably regenned a bit or used some mind and it throws the question off).
Thanks again for all the information. You guys/gals (never can tell on here) are the best!

Ah there it is... there is a market for foods as alternatives to healing, I was curious if anyone had caught on to that.

You'll be at 600/1000. When a buff wears off, the current value only changes if it's higher than the un-buffed maximum. So if your mind healed up to 1200/1400 and then the buff wore off, you'd go to 1000/1000 and a blue "-200" pops up over your head.
Although I'm not sure if this is a "market". I use this myself, since I'd rather spend 15 skill points on things other than novice medic, but haven't found anyone else who's really interested. Well, except for the mind buffs, medics/doctors/CMs really seem to enjoy those.
