Thread: The Truth Behind Brandy

There have been a lot of people skipping out on the 45 minute timer and bringing it down to 35-40min to get that buff bonus up higher. The larger number looks better, but looks is where it stops. Most people look at the buff and ignore the time. One dimisional thinking is common in the customer (and chef)that can not think beyond that first drink. However brandy does work over time, and if you are working over time you need to know what it is you are buying so you can get take what you need for the situation.

Lets take two brandies as an example, 1) 360 for 45m. 2) 430 for 35m. Both at 50% fill.

Now the first 2 drinks gives, 1) 720, 2) 860. It appears that 2 is by far better. Now 22.5 minutes have past and another drink can be had. 1) 1080, 2) 1290. Now that 2 brandy is looking very good. Another 12.5 minutes past. The first 2 drinks of brandy 2 have worn off so we have 1)1080, 2) 430. Brandy 2 is now not looking so good. 10 more minutes past and another drink can be taken. Brandy 1 effects wear off from the first two drinks, the 3rd drink is halfway through. Brandy 2's 3rd drink is still going for another 12.5 minutes. So now we have 1) 720, 2) 860. 12.5 munites later Brandy 2 is down to 430 again, however in 10 minutes another brandy can be taken. As soon as the 3rd drink of Brandy 1 is gone another can be taken, keeping the buff at 720.

So in recap:

Brandy 1 gives 720 for 22.5m, then 1080 for another 22.5m. From there it is 720 constant.

Brandy 2 gives 860 for 22.5m, then 1290 for 12.5m. It then loses the supper buff and falls all the way to 430 which it stays for 10 minutes. It will then alternate from 860 for 12.5 to 430 for 10 minutes until the drinks are stopped.

Brandy 1) High - 1080, Low - 720, Average for 135m - 780.

Brandy 2) High - 1290, Low - 430, Average for 135m - 732.

Note: 135m is 3 45 minutes sets, or just over 2 hours, the standard doctor buff time.

Brandy 1 gives a good and constant buff, especially good for long playing times such as getting a doctor buff and using it to its fullest.

Brandy 2 gives a strong yet short lived buff. The buff falls off rather low at time, making the person vulanable for 10 minutes at a time. The drink is only great for short time spans, 35m, and not good over the long haul.

Something to keep in mind when choosing your brandy and which fits you best for when.

sounds good, in theory, but you also have to consider these things...

1) decay is not working properly.. i take 2 forty minute brandies, wait the thirty minutes, take another, and then try and take1 more, and wala...too full to drink that second one...

2) general time consumption of the game : i rarely notice when my buff is about to run out, unless i set the thirty miute timer, which the majority of customers dont do...so even if decay was working properly, i still wouldn't get the full 15 minutes of plus 1400 buff....maybe three or four minutes of it, during which time i may be travelling or idle.. so...

i agree with youin theory, but practicality tells me to keep buffing quality rather than duration....

Another point you miss in your example. Brandy is fine, but is not the be all/end all. There are a variety of other drinks that my most advanced fighters are craving (such as thundercloud, blue milk, etc) As a result, they prefer to use the +430/35mins singled, not doubled. Using this approach they can stay good for all, if not most, of their session constant at 430 with room to take an emergency drink of something else.

The examples above were taking into account the 45 minute decay which to my knowledge is working. Whether or not it will be changed to the correct 30 that was stated before the patch isn't an issue. 2 45 minute drinks. You wait 45 minutes and can take 2 more instantly.

The other post about not only taking 1 brandy is very true. I would still however take 1 brandy for half my filling, use the other half filling however I want and then after 45 minutes eat another brandy for the constant buff. This is obviously a personal preference.

Oberon - With 2 40 minute brandies you should get about 5 minutes of down time before you can get fully buffed. So what you are seeing is exactly what you should see. The timing is a good point. People don't always notice right when you lose the buff, though the game does tell you. You do the -360/430 blue numbers above your head when the buff wears off, if you are paying attention. If you are doing something that takes a lot of mind, ie rifleman, then you notice the buff gone with the first shot. That focus is key to mind consumption.

The mix and matchers using only one is a good point. I have difficulty seeing how blue milk is useful over brandy. Higher willpower and mind helps more when taking mind damage than a simple stim. I am not doubting that it gets used though, I just don't see it as effective myself. Though I would think a mix and matcher would rather have a 45 minute timer so they can properly plan on the effects and when they can retake them. Nothing is worse than losing your buff in battle and being helpless to get it back, it's a killer. Any spice user knows this.

This is the type of customer I have catered to with my brandy. What happens if you start getting hit with multilple mind shots all at once? Kind of nice to have a blue milk to chase the brandy, yes? Oh, wait...you can't do it because you're full.

People trying to keep 2 or 3 brandies down at once haven't yet realized that there are other things chefs can offer. And chefs offering only brandy haven't yet realized the amazing selling power many other drinks have.

While I've made a couple of runs of brandy, I'm actually doing much better business picking up the slack by making Ithorian Mists, Blue Milk, etc. I'm also probably one of the few on my server offering BE enhanced Vegeparsine (what a pain the rear to make that stuff, but it's selling well).

This has also helped since my supply of Crystalline Gemstones has dried up.

Actually, I have a jedi buying tons of stuff:

Air Cakes (but found out they don't work if you don't have the Dodge skill -- yet)

Travel Biscuits (get them to +10 for 15 minutes and you're good to go)

Vegeparsine

Synthsteaks

Vasarian Brandy (well, everybody's buying this)

Blue Milk (though he has mind healing powers)

And he's got an order for the various defense vs. types of things and Cho Nor Hoola (poison and disease resistance)

When digestion is no longer bugged... 35min is more then sufficient.

And please dont preach, its just sad.

You think I am preaching and my comments are "sad"? Sorry you read my posts that way. I don't preach on this board, and didn't plan on startingtoday.

Given the game environment of a 45 min stomach, I have the opinion that duration should be taken to 45 min when applicable. That is all. If and when they change it, sure 35m will do fine. Never said it wouldn't What I did say though is that it helps to explain things to customers regardless of what crafting profession you do.

Educated comsumers, make your best customers. If they say they can get a "better crate for less", ask them for the stats of that crate and take the time to explain what the difference is between them.

But when digest is changed to 30 minutes, a 45 mins brandy is much better than a 35 min one still. You will get 15 minutes of overlapping Brandy buffs, compared to 5 minutes of overlapping.

I personally don't see the 30 minute stomach happening. The Dev said they will increase the buffs only if the effects were too weak for people. As of right now, people are really liking the buffs and they are quite useful. I don't see them making the 30 minute stomach or doing much adjustment at this point. There are a few things that need tweaking, like BoH, but most things work very well with the current stomach. So don't assume that the 45 minute stomach is a bug or is being changed any time soon.

As to max buff, over the short term the high buff, short duration brandy is good. Over the long term, the longer duration of brandy gives the higher buff. See the averages in the numbers I crunched. The thing is, most people don't realize that the longer duration brandy gives a better buff over long times. This is very important to those that use a lot of mind in battle. A rifleman can still knock themselves out with just a single dose of brandy. They need both shotsto spam that flushing shot2. Those that don't use mind at all will probably mix and match or may even pass up brandy altogether. So I am not sure how important brandy is to non-mind users.A BE Rifleman always needs mind boosts, so I know a thing or two about mind buffs, but other things I am happlially ignorant on.

Great discussion guys, thanks.

I push my customers for a power brandy, a reduced filling brandy (33). you can fit an ithoiran mist, or a thundercloud in there as well then. Add a power Canape +740 11m, a power thakitillo +99.8 vs. KD (I forget the duration) a power synthsteak and a power vegesparine and you can be a force in pvp.

I also add in some won-won's and the swirls and regular canapes all set up to go together, along with vegehash and the rest for PvE needs.

Why does everyone feel that have to stack up on JUST brandy? With what i have made +430 M/F/W 37min 30sec, 50fill and Canape, with a +755 F/W for 10m, 39 fill. With just eatting one each. Boost me to a 430/1288/1288 buff. Half the time depending on what I am fighting I dont even see my mind bar move as a Master Fencer. And asa zabrak and the +700 WP bonus it works out nicely.

Although with digestion (as been stated numerous times) being bugged and not 30min as it was intended. With any food duration under 45min your going to have a bit of downtime if you fill up on everything. Basically i have told people until digestion is fixed take one of each... I have kept a constant buff, at times stacking brandy, and never filling up. Its all about being smart on how you use them.

Most customers want the max buff possible. I have asked people which they would rather have a +430 for 37-38min or a +380 for 40-45min, yeah 50 isnt much of a difference, but its the way things have worked out and they have all generally said the max buff and they will deal with a few minute downtime if they fill up instead of being conservative. Hell some say they just use Muon Gold to satisfy them on a downtime. Basically, who wants a doctor buff thats +900 for3 1/2hours rather then a +3000 for 2 1/2 hours. Not me thats for damned sure. So the question is, would you like to have a strong buff, that boosts your primary and substats to a max, or have a longer duration, that isnt that great, but somewhat does the job?

But being the "Truth behind Brandy"? Ummm lets not make this a conspiracy theory.

More like a supply and demand, they want max buff over duration (most of the time) we give it to them. Once the digestion is fixed (crosses fingers), then it wont be much more of an issue.
