Thread: Pricing Guideline Excel Utility

Ever since we moved to the new chef system, I have had a challenging time calculating prices for my foods. It used to be so easy when we only had 3-5 foods we could sell. Now with the huge variety, the BE components, the
containers... there's so much variety sometimes I have no idea where to start in pricing my foods.

So I decided to put together a tool to help give myself a guideline. This is a guideline only. Of course, many foods are "popular" and their price can be increased. Other foods are less in demand, and would be priced
lower. It takes into account the following:

1) Number of units in a stack
2) Comparative "normal", "light BE Modifier" and "Medium BE Modifier" (I don't have access to heavies, so I didn't bother with that).
3) Total Bonus with & without BE tissues
4) Filling
5) Cost of components.

This is basically a "cost plus" pricing model that takes the base cost of the food and adds in the various factors to generate a price that should be charged per unit or per case. I also didn't take into account duration since most people don't seem overly concerned with that (in my market anyway).

How you use it:
1) Enter the number of units required
2) Enter the cost per unit
3) Enter the stats of the "base" product (experimented on to the best of your ability)
4) Enter the cost & stats of the BE supplement you plan to use
5) Enter the case size you plan to sell it by
6) Enter your markup Multiplier (which is determined by your local market competition - both dependent on the server you're on and on the specific planet you're on)
7) Enter the importance you give to number of uses vs. maximum bonus (most people I have heard look for the highest bonus and don't care about number of uses)

Based on all those inputs, the spreadsheet will present you with prices for varying sizes and enhancements. You can use this as a basis to price virtually any product.

Another neat thing it does is calculates the "Cost per bonus" (CPB) and "Price per bonus" (PPB). Bonus is defined as the maximum possible bonus achievable from filling up on the food. For example - Vassarian Brandy that has a 51 filling and gives +220 bonus would be +220. If it had a 49 filling with a 200 bonus, it would be +400. The lower the cost per bonus the more economical it is to produce. The lower the price per bonus, the more economical it is to USE. Something that has a low CPB and & low PPB represents the optimal combination to produce. However, most people will want a BE modified product which increases the cost & price, so keep that in mind (i.e. people are willing to pay for the BE modified food).

I have included three examples with this - one for Vassarian Brandy, one for Blue Milk, and a third for Thakitillo. Based on the calculations straight off the spreadsheet:

Vassarian Brandy:
Crate of Small glasses, non-BE enhanced = 21,000 credits (stats = +200 for Qty 6, 49% filling)
Crate of Casks, non-BE enhanced = 84,000 credits (stats = +200 for Qty 18, 49% filling)
Crate of Large glasses using Light Nutritional supplement = 101,280 credits (stats = +280 for Qty 9, 49% filling)
Crate of Casks using a Medium Nutritional supplement = 304,200 credits (stats = +360 for Qty 18, 49% filling)

Note that this seems to work fairly well for Chef foods and more complicated foods, but the 'simple' foods like Bofa Treats seem to get astronomically expensive when you add BE components. At an estimated cost of 1000 credits for a medium additive, it's not really worth adding them to low-end artisan food, although some of those can get pretty good bonuses with them (i.e. up to about a +1100 bonus to a stat for 30+ minutes with Bofa Treats & Blob Candy).

If anyone has any comments, please throw up a response and I'll respond here. Any adjustments will be made to the file posted.

Kudos for your effort but prices seem to vary per server due to each server having their own economy. But this should do for a ballpark figure at least I guess.

All gone. Nothing to see now. Bye Bye Ahazi most of you guys were cool

Correct - that is why I have included a "markup" percentage so that you can adjust the price of the model for your server (or even planet's) economy. If you have a server that has very high prices, use a markup of 200 to 300%. If the prices are very deflated, then use a markup in the range of 50%-150%

Bump... I'm seeing a lot of questions on pricing, but surprised to see there wasn't a lot of interest in this...
