Oh and just to add, if you want the most efficient meat hunter, rifleman is the way to go. Make yourself a nice little non ch tank pet and you're sailing.

I will be going Master Chef/BE/3001 Merchant on one toon

and then Formal Wear 1/Surveying 4 on another toon.

It just offers me a lot more flexibility for my second toon, very few points are taken up.

This is only for selling chef foods though. If you want to sell other things, then more merchant is required and obviously more points into other crafting professions.

Combat on my chars is only for fun though, as I rarely hunt my own meats. I just can't gather a decent amount to make it worth my time.

Very similar to my situation, except I had architect instead of tailor (I resently traded out architect for armorsmith until JTL comes out where I'll be going shipwright.)

My BE was a master CH instead of TKA and had some rifles for the meat, which I can never collect enough of. He is currently hologrinding/questing with master swordsman. My new char will be the BE.

One thing on the merchant, the hiring line is completely worthless once you are done playing dress up on your vendors. I would go 3,4,0,4 for the decrease in maintance costs and the extra vendors/items you'll get. Though I usually play around with the points when I shift around vendors. Good thing merchant exp is easy enough to get.

what line of marchants effects the number of items you can sell? if so how big of a difference is there between 4 and master.

Hey, Higginsis, you just helped me make up my mind! Like you, I am Master Chef, Master Artisan, Master Merchant, and I recently acquired an alt that I'm grinding toward MBE (with scout 4040 and novice medic). However, I was dithering between TKA and MR for the meat gathering aspect.

And on my alt i have BE/Master rifleman/scout 4040/novice medic. Works very well i find.>

Well, you know my decision, rifleman here I come ! So, hat's off, and thanks a lot!!

I'd say that is a very good combo considering the line of work you are both in. One suggestion to consider, however, is perhaps mastering merchant instead of tailor. With the forthcoming changes in Pub 10, the amount of items you will both be able to sell will be quite limited, affecting chefs perhaps more negatively than all the other crafting profs. I know your logic there is selling BE enhanced clothes, however, the marked really has declined on that with the exception of Medical garments and I think you'll find that the money you will make from BE additives and Foods will FARRRRR outweigh any income from BE clothes. Take just enough tailor to make your own trim (0010 I think) for your Casks, but I would master merchant over Tailor, personally in your combo's there.

TKM doesn't do damage fast enough? You're kidding, right?

Although I've never been a rifleman, and don't know the damage there, when I was a TKM I would take on 39k enraged rancor missions that spawned 5 of them and they dropped pretty quickly using /spin2 and /unarmed3 Gathered a lot of meat that way althoughI sold off all off the good meat before I became a chef (kicking myself for that one)

I only have 1 character, right now I'm a MBE/MChef/Artistan 0444/Nov. Merchant. Anything under Survey 4 is awful for finding things, but every so often I drop surveying 4 and Nov. Merchant and pickup Tailor Formal I to make some trim schematics. I usually have enough General Crafting XP to pickup novice right away, and a lot of practice ribbed shirts later I get FW1. I can easily go back to my regular setup as I normally have extra survey XP and always have extra Merchant XP.

Probably just a personal preference. The difference between Swordsman and TKA for me was about a 50% boost with swordsman. This is a speedcapped(or close) swordsman though. A standard TKA I think would beat a standard Swordsman.

Rifleman takes a little more effort at least for me. I needed to get used to useing a pet again so the cone effect actually did something. I know I can kill just as fast with Swordsman as with Rifleman though. But again this is with speed attachments.

Dont forget Master Swords or Master Pike as your meat gather. TKM no way, they dont do enough damage fast enough. Can't argue whether these two professions would be better than Rifles, I have never been one.

Well its more about 1 move for the hunting that imo makes rifleman the best: Strafe 2.

I've killed 4 rancors in 5 shots with strafe 2. Its THEE best PvE move for low lvl creatures, and i know i could take a lair down quicker with rifleman that i could with swordsman.

But as numen's said its preference really.

Also a tkm is prolly the worst for this type of lair hunting, not by much, but the AOE attacks for pikeman and swordsman are better than TKM (and i've been all 3 )
