Do they all need to have the same serial number in order to be used in a factory? I know casks dont...

Unfortunatly they don't. Its a shame really with milk being such a expensive requirement, making it so you could make a small amount of crates and still use them in a big run would be a helpful step.

You mean that they do surely? They do need to all be the same serial... Milk is a sod to get, just have to say that I was lucky to know a good ranger who sold me 100k at 15cpu

Try to find someone with a creature recycler, and turn all milk (well, all but thebest milk) generic for bantha butter.
I well understand that it's way easier to say that than to do it, but there may be a few recyclers out there that are not fully utilized.
