I've tried using the barrel in some crafting. So far I don't find it a worth while component. Is there another purpose for it in crafting other than using it like a glass?

Barrels are bugged, and have been since they were implemented

You should probably use casks instead, they give a 3x modifier to the drink (Brandy: 6x3=18)
