Thread: Healthy Food?

Anyone else think of the idea of having some food give REALLY SMALL benefits to your HAM bar....but have a REALLY LONG duration?

Like +1 point to health, but have it last for days.

If you think about itthese effects would slowly stack over time if someone constantly ate "healthy" food. A person who consistently bought and consumed these small "pseudo-permanent" buffs could find themselves with a larger, more "healthy" HAM bar that they could count on not disappearing in the middle of a battle.

Would kinda put the unique spin on food buffs that we Chefs are looking for.

Yeah I think if you read the thread above about Top Five problems in Chef, several people have suggested ideas similar to yours. I believe it was Holocron as well who said at one point that they'd planned food buffs to last hours. Not seconds.

At any rate they're planning on rebalancing foods - let's just hope they do it soon and ask for input while they are doing so! *crosses fingers*

Actually, that would be whoopass. Create an entirely new "health bar" labeled "metabolism" that gets increased in very small increments over time from habitually eating healthy foods.

A higher metabolism would mean:

  1. Faster regen of all HAM (and subs)... very small incremental improvements but noticeable over time.

  2. Faster consumption of food and drink giving the player the ability to eat/drink more servings more frequently.

  3. More frequent consumption of "healthy" food and drink required to maintain and/or increase their metabolic level.

Neat idea.

I don't know that I'd replace the existing buff system of bigger buffs and shorter durations in favor of the "health" model. It's a supplement to the existing system.

This is a lot more work than just bumping up durations and buffs but actually having another food attribute called "healthiness" (or whatever) that raises the metabolism that effects the character's overall performance.

A character that regularly eats healthy food will have a 125% regen rate after one month, 150% after two months, etc. up to 200%. The metabolism can also affect how well the character's body assimilates food such that buffs and durations of food are extended by 125, 150, up to 200%. That could be the long term way to increase buffs and put a bigger penalty on using spice as it has a detrimental effect on the metabolism. Another good tie-in for the BE's would have the metabolism-boosting factor be tied to using nutrional suppliments in the recipes.

Thanks Jonzun.

And I understand that the Dev's intend to lengthen the buff's.ButI think that the potiential for drastically reducing the buff in favor of an equally drastic increase in duration will be overlooked by the Dev's.

Having one line of food (maybe the entres) do very minor enhancments to the HAM over extremly long (like 24 hours of gameplay) durations would add some much needed substance to our profession.

If a tiny little buff lasts so long that a player finds that buying more and more of the food actually had a lasting, cumlulative effect, on their character, it would cultivate a return business based on personal growth over just wanting a bump for a battle, or rocking out at a cantina.
