Do they have to be placed in a player city, or can I place one anywhere I'd like?

They need to be placed in a level 2 player city, although since they are not a civic structure, if the city hall is removed, the cantina will remain.
Wasn't there a post very similar to this recently???

Hee there was recent post like this, I made it. As stated, you do need to be in a city to place a cantina, and if the city goes away, your cantina remains.
I was debating if I should take up politician, drop a city, get a few friends to stay a week or so, and then remove the city so I could have a "last chance bar and grill" in the middle of nowhere, but that seemed like a lot of work for a dubious reward.

Kauri server has a cantina in the middle of nowhere on Naboo. I've passed it several times and It's really cool. I wish it was for sale.
