Can anyone help me out on which resources I should get (i.e. what are the best resources).I am trying to start out as a Chef and I have no idea what resources I will need mainly for PvP foods and some PvE foods.

You should do what I did. Sit down with a piece of paper and go through the foods and drinks you want to make. Make a list of all the resources each one takes (you can do this by opening the crafting kit and selecting the item as though you are going to craft it). It tells you the importance of each stat and you can cross out the resources on the list as you collect them.

Truth is, we take so many different resources that it covers just about every flora out there, water, radiation, neutronium steel, chemicals, and a ton of creature resources for the tissues. I could give you a detailed list of everything but any knowledge you collect yourself, although tedious, will make you the better chef. This is not an easy crafting profession and the question you ask is too unspecific to answer.Any chef should be able to and have the desire to find this info out themself for it is the most basiccomponent of our profession.

Need to check and collect current bestresources on your server.

I was planning to start making certain type of food, but resource spawning dictates that in fact. Collect what is really good and make decision based on that.

your best bet might be to start with one or two foods/drinks that you like and work on getting those. Once you've got a nice recipe, then more onto another food. Its such a daunting task that getting all the stuff for all the foods at one time is impossible!

ok but how do i find the resources i need for the foods... what is the best way, like surveying wise and where to look, which planet has the bestflora

and also where do I get the components for food additives.. like the heavy bio component.. do bio engineers make it? i checked on the skills thing and there was no schematic and I cant craft it..

Many of us watch the stats of the current resources for our server on SWGCraft.com

This will at least tell you what the stats of the resources are that are spawning so you know which planet to go to.

That said, yes you will need to survey to find the best spots for the resources. You will also want to sample to verify that the resource does indeed have the stats you want.

You will need to get very familiar with your crafting tool and determining what the resources are for what you can and want to make. There are food charts out there, but they are really "cheat sheets" for you. To use them most effectively, you will want to understand what you can make and what you want to make--this may be dictated by the quality of the resources you have available.

Tissue components are made by BEs, as you guessed. Once you get these, you'll need to convert them to food additives by mixing them with water, making a schematic and doing a factory run. Much of that, along with charts and other really good tips, are included in the stickied thread FAQs and references for chefs and customers

IMO the only way to reallllllly get it is to jump right in and start out. you make what you can make, and watch current spawns like a hawk. if you're on a server that is regularly updated on swgcraft that helps a TON, and if you find something that's not on there yet you can it too, to help out.

one thing i did early on was harvest stuff i saw with good stats, whether i knew i'd need it a specific food or not. like i got some wild rice before i'd ever made a food that needed it, just cuz it had nice stats. well later on i started making parwan nutricake, which needs wild rice specifically so i was real happy to have that. and some foods just need "organic" so you can use any flora in that spot. so if there's nothing else out there worth getting, don't hesitate to put harvs on any flora that sticks out, you will probably end up using it at some point

but honestly, don't feel like you have to understand it completely before you jump in. the best way to learn is by doing, in this case that was completely true for me.
