Thread: Chef Correspondent Report
Overall looks good. I don't have time at work to read the whole thread, so I apologize if this has been said already.
The Food and Drink meters are buggy. They don't reset properly, and ALWAYS show as partially full, even when I haven't eaten anyting for days.
Plus, theres something wrong with how fast food fills you up. Some of my customers can only eat/drink 2 items and be full, even on an empty stomach (whereasI can eat/drink 3-4 monst of the time). Along those same lines, we need some kind of meter or buff window that shows not only what foods are currently affecting the character, but also gives some indication as to when the character will no longer be full. Basically, that food and drink meter is just not cutting it.
Right now, food is just not worth buying. Crates are too big (take of 5 inv slots, and cannot be hotbar'ed), the food/drinkduration is too low, and the amount of food one can eat before getting full is trivial.
SirVimes, could you perhaps inquire as to the intention of the devs with the Chef class? Are we supposed to be buffers? Or is our food just supposed to be a "once an hour when things get rough" kind of thing. I personally think we could be good buffers if things are tweaked slightly.
I think the biggest thing is my food is worth X amount of credits but cost Y in resources and time to make....and Y is always much much larger than X. That needs to be fixed if we EVER expect to make money selling food. It has to be worth it to our consumers.
Just take a look at the amount of exp necessary to advance through the chef tree and compare it to the smuggler. Also, when talking to armorsmiths and weaponsmiths....they have items they can grind exp on that give several hundred per assembly. My best right now is stewed gwouch at 100.
Thanks,
Cyene

Not much, but then again wasn't really expecting much at this soon after the first reports...but I am sure we will be seeing more soon.
Thanks Q!
Doctor buffs *are* in competition with chef buffs, and are better. Chef buffs can stack on top.. but when you've added 1000 to your health who needs another 100 that lasts for a measly 5 minutes?
I don't have a lot of direct experience with doc buffs (will soon), so I'm sorta spouting, but there are couple of key advantages to chef buffs:
- You need the doctor with you to get the buffs.. but the food you can have at any time.
- Doctors can't heal or buff mind attributes, but chefs can.
- I'm told there's a huge benefit to eating food after being incapacited or especially revived. Basically your stats are stuck really low (especially if you had doctor buffs on you? not sure how this works but I'm told) and the best way to get them up and get back into battleis to eat stuff that boosts stamina, willpower, and constitution. I've got requests for packs of food with these attributes just to help with this situation.

Not really. On Corbantis I see a good number of master doctors running around so I don't think it would be to hard to find one to buff you. The thing is you don't really need the doctor with you to get buffed either. They last so long that you could buff yourself and not worry about it the rest of the hunting trip.
- Doctors can't heal or buff mind attributes, but chefs can.
True. So that gives a small amount of room to work with.

This is under normal conditions. Doctors can buff those stats up also (excluding the mind ones) so unless you get a strange thing where an animal takes away all your constitution it should not have that big of a detrimental affect on a player.
There is a bug right now with doc buffs that screws up stats though. Not sure on the specifics ofthe bug but I believe it's what your saying. It won't be around forever though because it is a bug.
I'm sure this has been said before, but a simple thing that would make chef's more useful would be to REQUIRE Food and Drink to stay healthy.
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I think you are required to eat in EQ (wash my mouth out with soap).
Having to eat would add much to the realislim to the game. Now I don't mean you would have to be eating all the time, but at least once in every 8 hours of LOGGED in time would be a great help to chef's.
I expect flame from everyone who is not a chef, but guess what, I am not a chef but still think it is a great idea.
Just my .02 .....
Personaly....I don't like the idea of requiring food or drink to survive. It just seems like more stuff people are forced to do, which is never a good idea.
I don't know, for me it would take some of the fun out of it. I want people to buy my food because they want to...not because they have to.
I know the devs don't like this idea and any attmpt to get it into the game will be an uphill battle.
What do other people think?
Sir Vines, you do the board proud. The list is a good one, and essential...
I want to remind you of something, before you settle with UXP points as your personal request. Please revisit your "Chef's so silly" thread you started last week. It was really a brilliant idea, and it goes to the heart of the profession. Chefs are suppoed to be FUN! It's the lighter side of the SWG universe. Certainly people who have been willing to grind away with dough and carbosyrup will testify that they didn't go in to the profession with images of being the next Mace Windu of food. I say hat's off to the developers for creating the profession, because certainly they recognized that the game can be enjoyed by several different avenues.
What I believe is the most important thing for the survival of the class, is to make it as FUN as possible. Chef hats, roasted animals, belching, flipping bottles, eating emotes, crazy aprons... don't forget the little stuff. I know there are busts in the profession that need address in order it to merely function correctly. Get that stuff addressed. But make sure that there's some visibile way for the chef to be recognized. Seeing the creature handlers and their gaudy giants wandering around town is very visible. Tailors, architects, and every other craft has visibile manifestations of their craft that advertise "Look what I can make!" Chefs have buffs, and pieces of food buried in the inventory. If you took a chef, turned his title off, and had her perform her craft... she would be otherwise unrecognizable compared to your run-of-the mill artisan. Don't get me wrong, I love crafting stuff, but it's not like a crowd gathers around a top chef like they would a top tailor or image designer. Not YET at least.
Chef's need more. Chef's need the silly stuff.
I was thinking the same thing. Not this week, but next week or the week after I going to submit a report just of silly stuff we would like to see in this game...what Holo refer's to as polish.

Just FYI, I was reading over what some of the other correpondents have to say. The armorsmith one is bringing the experimentation bug that even when you have a success the quality is lowered. So the devs will see that, and hopefully realize it applies to all crafting professions.
Just a thought, but you may want to also mention this. Don't rely on the assuming that Devs will realize that ll crafting professions suffer this problem. If every craftig profession lists it as a problem, it is far likely to get attention right away.
