additional remarks:

I just realized... you need a gun to hunt as a marksman, you needarmor and/or clothes and you need to feed your pets... but you don't need to feed yourself! Why not? Why is there not a stamina penalty for when your fill meter is empty? why is there not a mind penalty for when your thirst meter is empty? I think it would be worthwhile to consider adding our foods as a necessity.. and IF people don't want to eat.. well, make the penalty less steep, allowing you to go hunting for shorter periods of time, at the cost of additional wounds over time. Would this suck so bad?

Note on the complete meals idea: I think it would be balancing if these could be "used" only in camps, cantinas and medical centers.

I like the idea of being able to combine things into meals, I think this would get rid of some of the inventory burden as well. The inventory system was NEVER meant to handle food. Even with all the satchels and backpacks food can be a huge burden, and I'm not even talking about all the trade window errors.

I'm going to stop posting in this thread from now on... Obviously nearly everyone here should have played a weaponsmith or armorsmith because they want to feel more needed. I chose to play a chef because I only wanted to cater to intelligent players who knew how to maximize their combat potential. Even with the current buffs I am getting intelligent players coming to me, buying enough at a time to not have to come to me again for a week. When the next patch comes in where knockdown attacks cost a lot more to your HAM meters, I can guarrantee you more people will be coming to get buffs to allow them to spam them for longer. It may take a while for them to learn this, but they will come.

The chef profession does need a rebalancing, especially internally, but if you spend the time like every other elite profession to reach a markettable level, you will make money, and you will be useful. I'm not as useful as a weaponsmith, but I definitely feel the people that are buying from me appreciate the service.

The day that chef makes such uber buffs that everyone wants them and I'm getting tell's every 5 second for more "OMG CAN I GT SOME MOER OF THAT 1337 FOOD? WHAT? YOU WNAT 10cr/RESOURCE FOR IT? OMG, CHEF X SELLS FOR HALF YOUR PRICES" I am quitting the profession.

oh, and it's not always as bad for fighers who don't always carry around tons of stuff, but I have to say I can fill up my inventory in a heart beat with food, pain to deal with when producing large quantities for clients.

Sorry, I got 1 more thing to b-tch about, I'm in a bad mood today

If you do a simple comparison to stimpack crafting, that might give you an idea how chef should be the same. Base profession Medic (not EVEN advanced doctor or com med), you can get up to stim D, the progression from A to B to C even is a worthwhile step up each time you progress. The values are better, and the charges are more, consistantly.

Now chef.. is an advanced profession, this ain't some bs primary skill thats easy to level, it takes a lot of xp. The progression is inconsistant to begin with. The increase in value to the buffs should already be much better at novice chef over artisan, and they aren't at all. Foods also need to increase in charges a lot more as well as progess in better values as you go up the chain, like how stimpacks are. Even experimented, you get.. what,6 or7 charges on food max? and if you do that you can't even up the values at all. Correct me if I'm wrong.

On another note, its been confirmed!

I chatted with a CSR agent today, Milk was NEVER meant to be so rare.

i guess most of us assumed this already, but now we have confirmation, Milk is borked.

Here's some figures I've pulled from chef charts from the web.. if the numbers are wrong, correct me. But you'll see exactly what I mean by half the foods just DONT MAKE SENSE.

Bespin Port +175 mind 110s

OK, here's exactly what I'm talking about... I pulled these figures from chef web charts, so if they're incorrect, just tell me then... my current chef status isn't up this far, so I'm basing off assumptions and input from high level chefs that I've spoken with.

Here's 1 example, BOTH of these are from mixology 4 (also consider the endless hours and materials it takes to get up to a tier 4 line):

Bespin Port +175 mind 110s

Skannbult Likker +105 mind -195 willpower 95s

First off.. explain to me why you would EVER pick the Likker, it HURTS YOU more than it helps. Second, look at the durations.. by the time you regen'd that mind cost, the duration would be half over, and its BARELY 2 minutes on the Bespin... not to mention the likker makes you regenso much slower it might not even GET to 105, which is unbelievable. Who's the brilliant designer who even coded thesefoods into the database??

Now you can argue "you can experiment it up"... but please, you aren't going to get that drastic of an increase off that. The inconsistancy and uselessness of most foods is just insane.

If they just made ALL the foods useful in some situation, you could pick and choose which you needed.. instead theres a very few in the entire 4 columns + master that are even half useful.

The reason I'm even bothering with all this b-tching is that I would LOVE to see foods actually be an important factor for buffing in this game, but they just aren't right now. Half of them hurt you more than help, and that's after considering you'd either spend hours and hours leveling and using resources, or paying for the food.

The thing is... those numbers were *probably* made with just Alcohol (or whatever the minimum is), not the higher quality stuff. They were also completely unexperimented.

I will bet you the Likker is a lot better than it appears...and I can maybe even tell you ina few days, I just have Mix 2 at the moment. (But I got Entrees IV last night.. woot, Iron Chef!)

Flavor seems to be broken this should be added to the Chef Report

The stat for flavor and texture seems to be unchangible from resources

I have been trying to get the flavor rating on my food too be more then 1-5% even with

999 Flavor 948 decay resistant Meat

945 Falvor 931 decay resistant Berries

978 Flavor 900 Decay resistant Oats

I cant get the Durration of my almond chew crisps any higher then if I used all

1 flavor 1 ddecay resistant products

But when I used all 990+ quality item I can get Stacks of 19 and im not even getting the experiment to 100%

Potiental Energy is also buged

Foods have a buff cap or something

on the Dwezzles I can use all 500 and lower Potiental Energy food

It gives me a short tiny bar to experiment with and stops at 155 when I finish the buff

I use all 900+ stats on the dwezzle I get a huge bar to experiment with but the buff stops at +155 even though I can keep experimenting it its just where that buff seems to say ok thats all you can get out of me.

you're wrong

I have made stacks of 8.. not a lot more than your estimated 7, I know.. but I thought I'd point it out.. and I could still up the nutrition a notch afterwards... I do think that experimentation holds more than I for one originally estimated.. I get a doubling on two of three stats right now when I experiment on base artisan foods. Then again, my char is human, and so gets a bonus to experimentation, which might be it.. I don't know enough to say for sure.

OK I'm about halfway done reading this post and while I am thinking about it I would like to say doctors buffs STACK with our buffs. Why in the name of gods green earth would it matter where our buffs compare to doctors?

The Catina I run I have a clinic attached. They by my food for on the spot buffing or to squeeve into armor and The doctors are there to boost there stats for a lon duration. Up until I reached novice chef I found this system to be extremely good. I also sell spices from a friend so I offer a one stop buff shop. The spices are smiliar to food. long lasting decent buffs with a serious drawback. I find spice and chef to be the only comparable things here. and they are balanced somewhat. Yea you can have some spice. Its expensive and you'll be sick for about as long as you are superman. Welcome to the world of drug use. The chef stuff should just continue with what they were building on in domestic arts. Why would it be so wrong for out buffs to just get more and more powerful as we progress? Would it be so bad for master chefs to give benifits equivilant to low end spice? Does spice count as food in the food bar? Can we even really compare ourselves to spice?

For me this is a key selling point. Not only can you buff yourself with the doctors but I also have spice food and drink. each can make you all the more powerful when needed.

My issue and the only reason I am here right now is I just got Novice chef. Here is what I found

The almod things boost quickness. not very much and not very long but I can sell it. of course I can make better quickness things already so the almond deals are just a curiosity.

Meatlump: Constitution booster. Not so bad in and of itself. pairs up with crispic well (A DA 2 buff) Only problem is it is a sever pain in the rear to make. Way to expensive and time consuming for a buff K-18 already fills. (In fact K-18 is a more powerful version of the above two combined if I recall correctly)

Wastril bread. I dont remember much about this other than I was unimpresed.

Blap biscuit: This is something I can sell. It is alot like the starshine and jawa juice I already sell with the added factor that it is food and not drink. My entertainers will be pleased.

Charde = Ruby Bliel in all respects

Alcohol. I can make it but Its a part of something else so I dont know its value yet. components are good. I dont mind components. same with the soypro stuff.

So what's my problem. I've said I can sell this stuff. Answer: while the resource cost (with the exception of those almond things) has gone up the buffs themselves have actually overall gone down. NOTHING compares to starshine, Teltier noodles, or dustcrepe (All great sellers and who knows about jaar) After spending a week working my way towards it and crrafting three final cups of ruby bliel to celebrate with some friends on the accomplishment I had to trek across the galaxy (aparently chef trainers are rarer thant jedi) motivated soly by the fact that I was going to be able to provide my customers a better product. I'm going to be a official chef. and what a load of crap that was. To stay competitive I have to charge the novice chef price for domestic arts 2-3 product. It might sell. but the other stuff will sell faster.

Another problem. 32k to get to the next level. any level. I only make 20 to 30 xp per item. Perhaps if the food was better than Domestic arts 4 stuff I wouldn't care. I only make food when I get close to a level or to restock. From what I can see so far I will stock my shevles exacly once with this stuff and it will grow nice and moldy. I am not going to grind 32k at 20xp a pop for inferior products. Not that I can't make my nooldes and such but what am I going to do with general crafting xp? Go into weapon smithing so I can make actual money and justify the large house I have?

Ok alot of m frustration has come out. I will summerise the solution below.

-Buffs need to get gradually better based on the DA food. for example. jawa juice provides approx a +50 boost to stamina and strength for a decent amount of time. Starshine provides approx 100. Novice chef has chard perhaps this will increase mind by 100 as opposed to the 50 of ruby? ir maybe itll last 3 more minutes than ruby on average. I use average and approx alot because experimentation throws alot of wrenches into things I'm talking about un experimented stuff

-foods from DA need to give food xp

-I like the idea to have skill buffs included in food I also agree that the trees should be different. food and drink is already different so the real issue is meals and deserts. perhaps deserts could have the skill buffs but still be on the food bar?

-compareing food to doctors boosts is like compareing armor to a gun. They go well together but they are not in competition.

-Spice is bad for you. We need to hold anti-drug protests j/k Spice just offers a different kind of boost and I am not sure how it stacks with food.
