I give those two scenarios about the same odds.

Jedi's rely on the force. That regeneration and cap is all determined by level. All other weapons use HAM cost to even out the use of specials hence it is imperitive you get your stats buffed to counter the ham costs not to mention the damage concerns'.. I agree that as damage goes that will pretty much be even jedi through other classes.. However, as for using weapons jedi have one... Lightsaber uses force cost per special move just to use it. A jedi can get away with just buffing health action and constitution for normal play. (unless having to put on armor due to encumberance costs). Again its just better to get full buffed. There is NO way in game to buff your force powers. You just cant pop a mulon midichlorian gold and run away.

Jedi have to use the force to gain any appreciable EXP to level. If while a normal player commando, BH, TKA, Rifleman Or other combat class is out and about overt and gets attacked. He can quickly pop food/drink/mulon gold and self buff and defend himself. Jedi on the other hand in the course of a day fighting to level gets attacked by a BH or other class scouting around has no option but to try and hop on a speeder and run.. Most likely doesnt have the Force pool present to force run away since he is leveling. In PVP, buffing stats allows players to have an endless source of ham cost for large ham cost specials namely buffing the focus quickness strength to counter those ham costs.. JEDI get no such luxury.
