Thread: Chef undercutting AGAIN!
"Actually many areas of the country have laws against selling too low. "
Heh, and the entire country has laws that strictly prohibit competingbusinesses from consulting with one another on pricing....

Actually many areas of the country have laws against selling too low.
True
.The SWG economy is much less restricted than real life; there are many reasons why a completely free economy is not practical and legislation on things like pricing is seen as necessary. For some interesting reading, do a web search on "anti-dumping." The moral - an open and unregulated economy in SWG is not guaranteed to be practical, since an open and unregulated economy has not yet worked in real life.

But we are talking about self-regulation in SWG, since government regulation is not possible.
Not to mention only specific portions of the US economy are regulated.
And ironically, the regulated portions are indeed regulated because.....*drumroll*......price fixing and monopolistic business practices.

Yes, and there may not be a good solution since there is no way to enforce any kind of self-regulation. It might just be that the economy of SWG creates inherently unfair situations for some.

No, the regulations often have to do with stuff like third world countries having dramatically lower workforce costs, kind of the opposite of price fixing and monopolies.
You fools need to stop charging per use and charge per resource like every other crafter in this game does.
The price of a weapon has little to do with the amount of resources that go into it - heck half the weapons out there use less overall resources than one breath of heaven.. One of the first T21s on my server sold for 750k - why? Becasue the buyer had the money and he thought it was worth it. Even now they sell for between 20k and 100k, and yet the guys selling for 100k still sell out within a day or two of putting them up, despite people undercutting them at 20k.. I say charge what people are willing to pay, the supply of money is infinite, the amount of master chefs is not ![]()
Actually, I'm the one that figured out the "workaround" to the broken stacks bug you so nicely mentioned.
I have saved many people vital sanity by mentioning it in passing, putting it in the description of sales, form emails, people wanting me to buy them, etc.I also spend a lot of my time answering food questions, helping people into armor, giving free samples, hunting down the highest quality ingredients and experimenting while they wait in my cafe. I wait on people hand and foot when they come to my Cafe. I don't ignore tells, I never say I am too busy, and I am very upfront when I am low on a certain resource. Oh, and guess what? My food prices are not expensive compared to my neigbors. Something more is wrong that my supposed "Lack of customer services skills" and my "high prices".
So your assumtion that I must really suck at customer service prooved the old cliche saying of what happens when you assume.
=P
" It might just be that the economy of SWG creates inherently unfair situations for some"
I'm not sure how SWG could create that, given we are all able to emulate the same strategies. Though I'm not really uncomfortable with things being unfair so to speak. That is after all more like real life.
"No, the regulations often have to do with stuff like third world countries having dramatically lower workforce costs, kind of the opposite of price fixing and monopolies."
Well, not "No" since my statement is alsocorrect. Yours may be correct I'll agree, butI think its very hard to deny that we have someregulation because of historical monopolies harming consumers. Last I checked that was the foundation our antitrust laws were built upon.
"So your assumtion that I must really suck at customer service prooved the old cliche saying of what happens when you assume."
Heh, Martyn, show me in my posts where I assumed you are bad at customer service. I merely stated that it COULD be one of the MANY reasons MANY people in addition to yourselfmay have for not being able to sell product. And even then it was only to illustrate how price is onlyone aspect of a good business strategy.
What were you saying again about assume?
Cyene
Cyene, your post came across as many of us as a flame to Martyn. Debate semantics all you want, but the way it came out was just insulting to him, especially as there was absolutely no basis for your implications.

We aren't all able to emulate the same strategies. If you don't have some other player or players giving you money/resources or a second profession giving extra income you can't undercut prices to the same degree as someone who does. And my point is, that while real lifemay in many ways be unfair, theregulations that governmentsin real life can impose may make it somewhat less unfair thanSWG.
A flame?
Hmm ok....and how exactly do youdetermine that "many" people on these boards thought that it was in the 5 minutes since I posted it?
Listen, I'm not here to flame anyone. I merely used the EXACT same veiled insult Martyn used on me. You did notice that right? Or was hisinsult ok just because it was a little more subtle? So subtle that you wuld not come to my defense merely because were on different sides of an argument? Thats fairly transparent if you ask me.
I don't agree that there was no basis either. He stated I assumed he was bad at customer service and I rebuked, since there was no such assumption made in any of my posts.
Ida, I actually enjoya gooddiscussion, so lets stick to it. I'm sure if Martyn felt I flamed him, he can stand up for himself.
And I entirely disagree with your assumption that we cannot emulate the same strategies.
As I previously stated, I do not have any outside source of income, so I know for a fact it is not necessary to have a guild in one's pocket to be profitable at my price point.
Cyene
if you want to charge 2.5 k per stack of food you just turn off 85% of the player base to the chef profesion they think dam thats expensive.
I mean 1 stack of Stim Bs is alot more effective then any chef buff even a tatoonie sunburn. The most I ever see those sell for is 1.2k and they usualy come in a stack of 40.
Now if food was more useful I could see charging such high amounts but its not and I want to be a suport character who supplies buffs , I dont care about making money as a chef I went into chef assuming I would make no money.
I dont know where this illusion came from that chef buffs are so useful , in the game of starwars galaxies chef buffs come in last.
Some people are just cheap. Ask the doctors who sit in the med centers or entertainers in the cantinas. And cheap people seem to congregate in certain areas for some reason. I might suggest moving your shop as what is true in RL is true in SWG... location, location, location.
