The value of additives depends on your server economy, but as an example, on Chimaera I pay ~1600 per BSN, sometimes more if supplies are scarce

heh - they'd have to be +89 before I'd sell them at 1600-ish each on Chimaera

MSN+55 = 1,125cr each

BSN+85 = 1,375cr each

INN+115 = 1,625cr each

.. and I'm considering reducing those now Zadokk has quit BE. He was a mate in game and I didn't want to dig into his sales by taking my prices much below his. I'm playing with my spreadsheet atm, but the above prices still stand on my vendor (scarce supply? Not on Tatooine..) for the current stock.

I pay 1.3/1.5/1.7 mil for 57/87/117 and you can make 88s I've had2 full runs I paid 2.2 mil for. Other then bragging rights it only added 3 or 4 points and 30 seconds or so.

That's a valid argument. Yes, cheaper does sell more, but it's not just about profit margins.

To sell more you need more meat, so you either spend all your day hunting or spend all your day chasing hunters to buy meat off them.

Buying meat regularly means you end up paying more for it. I know there are people who jump up and down shouting about how they never pay more than 10cpu for meat, or get it all free/cheap from their guilkd - whoopee doo for them, eh? Us mere mortals can't do that. PLUS what they always forget is that their 'arrangement' cannot supply additives to EVERY CHEF on the server.

Taking your MNS example - it contains 15 meat and 35 flora. Yes, it can be produced cheaply if you hunt your own meat but let's assume you buy everything in, like most Chefs do (BE is no less of a crafter than a Chef - remember that. Many BE's have no combat skills since they need vendors and scout/ranger skills etc.)

Meat @ 10cpu, Flora @ 4cpu = 290cr / MNS

Meat @ 30cpu, Flora @ 4cpu = 590cr / MNS

Now - what is a Chef's normal markup? Well, I actually know this because my wife is a Master Chef on Chimaera. She has a standard pricing scheme based on ResourceCost x 3. Apply that pricing to MNS and where do you get to?

Min price 870cr (probably a 55 with that meat)

Max price 1,770cr ( around 57+ with good meat)

Chefs constantly tell BEs what they should be selling at, and how much profit they are allowed to make and BEs are constantly criticised for comparisons with Brandy prices, this is NOT a comparison with brandy prices, this is a comparison with standard chef markup.

Stealing a typical (not most expensive) chef's pricelist off the trade forum at Chim yields this example:

SYNTHSTEAK selling at 120K/crate(25) = 4800cr each

Costing: 40 Flora @ 4cpu + 5 hide @ 30cpu + MNS @ 1,000cpu = 1,310cr each

(Chef used in this example is RYNA, pricelist updated 13th August 2004)

It is not at all hard to make Synthsteak, no multiple processes etc. but the markup (even at 1,000cr per MNS)in this example exceeds 3 x cost

So - pricing remains a sticky issue. If Chefs want to continue to buy additives, then they have to expect to pay a fair price for them. If they don't want to pay a fair price for them, then they should expect to make their own BE *shrugs*

Synthsteak at 120k a crate ?
Assuming I pay 1200 per MNS, I charge 55-60k max per crate, sometimes less

I work on a max of 20cpu+additive cost (I do not add on cost of water and factory time for additive production), and I make a decent living from my sales

I have a MBE/MRM but don't have time to play it atm, so I buy in my additives. I generally pay 1200=1500 per MNS, 1500-1800 per BSN, and 1800-2200 per INN, which I see as a fair price.

*edit* Just wanted to add, I only charge 20cpu because I buy in almost all my resources, and good ones, I usually pay 10cpu+ on the flora. If I had the time to harvest all my own, I'd drop that down

Well on Flurry when you have the rich paying 60cpu for say Dathomir Wild meat(pretty easy to get) us little guys kinda get cut out of the meat market. So we have to crank prices up...Sell Be the meat cheap get Tissues cheap. Personaly i Charge around 35k fora crate of +86 Bsn's.

I worked out what I think is a reasonable price scheme.

I charge 25K per crate for BSN and I give a price break if someone buys the entire 1000 tissue run. If the price of resources goes up (which hasn't been the case on my server) then my prices will increase proportionally.

I do have crates on my vendor as we speak (shameless self-serving plug)

ON Bria it was 10/15/20k for additives, but that was based more or less on one person ruining the market for everyone. That person quit so I expect the prices to go up, I know they would If I was the one making them.

It will fluctuate widely between the servers. On starsider there are several BE's, that make +88 BSNs and +118 INNs on a regular basis. Prices for those are usually around 35-45k a crate, with the pricing getting better for the more you buy.

Maybe I need to switch servers here. I have seen a total of 1 person advertise tissues for sale in the last 3 months on Tempest and that was because they were done with crafting.

I've been offering 40-60cpu for meat that I know I can get 30k in a buff session and I haven't gotten enough to even last me a week.

Also I would agree that 120k a crate for sythsteak is a little high. I assume 40k minimum for tissues(If I could get them for 15/25/35 in the quantities I neededI'd drop BE in a heartbeat), then add on my non BE price of 25k. So we get a 65k price per crate.
