Thread: Balancing chef without nullifying other professions(smuggler+doctor)
In my opinion the following formula should be applied to our buffs:
Novice Chef: 1.5 X Buff Effect4 X Duration
Intermediate Chef: 1.75 X Buff Effect 4.25 X Duration
Advanced Chef: 2 X Buff Effect 4.5 X Duration
Expert Chef: 2.25 X Buff Effect 4.75 X Duration
Master Chef: 2.5 X Buff Effect5 X Duration
The Master Chef: 2.75 X Buff Effect 5.25 X Duration
Now, obviously, some buffs would have to be scaled down, such as Tat Sunburn and Flameout, but these are few and far between. I know that the Tat Sunburn is way scewed at this time, but I also believe that it will not be adjusted until they address the rest of the issues. Just think how pissed all chefs would be if the only saving grace, currently, for our profession was nerfed and the problems left intact. I also believe that some of the recipes in our repertoire would have to be rearranged, but Ithink the above solution would address my concerns. And, the adjustmests above are to the base line statsfor each food with experimentation able to achieve greater results. Just my opinion.

unless the buffs are a extreme effect making you able to take out red copn monsters easily like they were yellows no one will ever rreally want them
The buffs as they stand now are basicly useless besides maybe 3 buffs in the entire chef professions.
The Tatoonie sunburn is not overpowered That should be the drink all buffs are compared too it should be the Botom line set by level 2 buffs in all 3 tiers
Each buff after level 2 should be at that kind of statistic Gain with either longer durations or beter stats.
If buffs are not that good then they 're not worth the effort to obtain..
No one cares for +300 in a stat thats not going to be any help unless its something that lasted forever and cost them nothing.
I hunt all the time doing regular missions and Dantoonie dungeons I dont even use my buffs , I dont even need to use tatoonie sunnburns.
I solo Reds with my riffle and its just at specialist it just gets easier and easier for people as they level up in there combat professions not any harder..
Right now top ranking players in there combat professions can take down some of the hardest monsters in the game with out using anything but smugglers spice. .
Chef buffs need to make everyone solo so much beter that it would be insane not to be using them
Exactly like a weapons smiths best gun works so much beter it would be insane too keep using your CDEF..
A person fully buffed on food should be taking out red con monsters no problem already most people cantake on red cons no problem but food should make them a simple task.
if no even a riffleman can solo reds in 3 shots with a laser riffle just because its made by a great weapon smith
why shouldn'y you be able to solo reds with no problem while using buffs because they were made by a great chef?
Is that not the point of buffs?
People are currently able to take down many red con mobs solo only because a) the calculation for what their con should be isn't a very accurate one, and b) Because there's a lot of exploits available to do so.
According to the game notes white = 50/50 chance, yellow = enemy is more likely to win. red = near certain death. This, isn't currently the case, but should eventually be the case. And once it is, people will be wanting buffs to make it possible.
If you can get your pools increased by 800, for the average person that is double their existing pool. Which also equates to living twice as long(twice as many hits), which means they can do twice as much damage, which simply put means that you can kill far tougher mobs.
And chef foods should never be essential. Nearly everything in this game is optional. I could be wearing armor, but I prefer not to because of the encumbrance. When wearing armor my specials cost a lot more, my regen is very slow, and its generally inconvenient so I CHOOSE not to use it. People should be able to measure up the cost of buffs and their value, and some of them should choose to get them.
The simple fact is that Chefs are entirely devoted to buffs, doctors and smugglers are not. They should have a hard time competing with us for buffs.
everything is optional
So I have the option to play in my newbie clothing running around with my CDEF and join a great exp group and do just fine.
Armor and cloth is a balance issue between two classes.. If they made armor beter then cloth you killed the tailor..
Thats the only place you have the options is in armor or cloth ..
weaponry is theoretically optional. You'll do **edit** without good weapons, but you could still master a combat profession with a cdef, and an inhuman amount of patience.
Pretty much everything in the game is put in place so it can help you increase your advancement rate by making you more efficient. Artisans need not buy harvesters, but it'll help a **edit** lot. Fighters need not buy armor, but that'll also help. Same with clothes and entertainers. I haven't been accused of being out of my mind for not wearing armor. I dont think someone that chooses not to spend his money on buffs tomake himself more efficient should either.
What you want is an uber-profession that would make us all incredibly rich and popular. I just want a decent profession that is fully functional, and useful to those around me, while being able to make a good living.
I dont want to put the smugglers or doctors out of business. We should be overall better, however, there should also be situations where their buffs would come in useful.
Once this game is properly balanced out, every profession should be useful, and not contain any useless skill trees. If making us useful would require making skill trees from other professions useless, somethings wrong.
I've said it many times: If our buffs aren't quite as effective, but have no side-effects, take less, space, and are consumable at any time, we most definitely would be the best at buffing. I dont care if a doctor could do a bit more. If its only him that can give that bonus, and I have to hunt a high level doctor down every time I want that bonus, I'd just stuff my face with chef buffs any time. I dont want to suffer the downtime from smuggler buffs either, so again, despite slightly lesser effects, I'll go with the chef food.
If our buffs are stronger, and last longer, and can be used any time with no side effects, we would totally obliterate doctors and smugglers. With having slightly(slightly being the key word here)weaker effects/duration, most people would still come to us, but we wouldn't render doctor and smuggler useless. I will call nerf's or bonuses on any profession regardless on whether or not its my own one. I think that the "power" of a profession shouldn't be a deciding factor for someone choosing a job, and for this they need to be balanced. It's obvious just from the tiny number of chefs that we're currently underpowerred. In the same way, the huge number of CH's shows that they're overpowerred. With the CH nerf, a lot of people will be dropping that profession, and we'll see much more reasonable numbers of them. A sign of chef being a decent profession will be when people will no longer be daunted to play one because its too weak.
