Cpajoe wrote:Well after Reading this post, I about died laughing. The chefs have been hurting for so long with stuff that couldn't compete with Doc buffs now there food is awesome. So my Alt character is a Master BE and I am willing to make any chef a schematic for a tissue if they bring the resources enough to make two schematics just incase I roll a critical failure and pay me 250000 credits. Cuz I know you will be getting 200k for these crates of what ever and you get 1000 uses per schematic so that is only 250credits per tissue really a steal. I am on Chilastra my name is Pi'Rho send me a in game email if you are interested
everyone should know there will always be price gougers...and "Fad of the moment" type sellers...
however...fads pass...memories linger...
however if a BE wants to be anything other than a "fad" BE...and the same could be said for chefs...initial prices should be either at...or very close to what you expect to be able to sell things for in the long run. customers remember when they get gouged...and sorry to say, but even 100k for a schematic is too much. maybe if it were a schematic that required another schematic (or more) to make...100k wouldn't be unreasonable...even 250k might not be unreasonable...but for something thats just a subcomponent...one that only uses resources...maybe 50k.
the thing that really annoyed me before finding a reasonable BE partner...was the fact that 3/5 BE's said they wouldn't make schems, 2/5 said they don't make schems...they would sell me the tissues, but also that there was no way they could supply 1000's of tissues (I even offered to sell them HUGE stacks of meat...one was well over 70k, and they wouldn't do it). I asked more than 5...a lot more, and 1 even insisted that trading 9 schems (that the BE didn't even have the resources gathered for) was a fair trade for a single schem.
I don't know how many serious BE's think that trying to hold chefs ransom is a good way to get business...but the only thing I know for sure is this:
1) if you can't produce the item itself...and its only going to take a minute of your time for a subcomponent schem...sell the schem, but reasonably priced (50k seems more than reasonable).
2) the only thing that will result from BE's trying to hold chefs ransom (note not all BE's are like this) will be to force chefs to "holo-grind" BE...cutting existing BE's out of the loop completely...either that or turn to a PA-mate, or close friend.
3) if BE's ever require chef components...don't be surprised if chefs feel it is their duty/right to turn around and treat BE's the same way.
while the same could be said of tailors...chefs can at least sympathize with them...there are now 2 professions which pretty much NEED BE assistance to make good quality products.
not wanting to sell schematics I can completely understand and respect...but thats for finished products. subcomponents are often needed in HUGE amounts...and something so simple as delivery/transport of 40+ crates...well its not something easily done for many crafters.
what if tailors were to treat reinforced fiberpanels the same way...what would the price of armor look like? or how about master artisans...ever wonder why there weren't many that existed to supply ws's, or DE's....the artisans took the same standpoint many BE's have taken (no schems for subcomps)...and DE's responded by picking up master artisan...
the other important thing to remember is this...not every chef believes in price gauging...but if BE's feel they need to take more of a piece of what price gaugers make...all they'll end up doing is preventing the chefs who are trying to price things lower, and not let inflation get carried away, completely out of buisiness, as they won't be able to compete. sure the chefs selling for 300k+ per crate are justified for doing so...and BE's should be entitled to part of it...if they gathered the resources, etc...but what about the chefs selling for 150k...or even 200k? if BE's keep increasing the prices...the lower end prices will disapear...leaving only the high end prices (since they'll be the only ones that can afford BE additives).

^^^ He said it pretty well me thinks ^^^
Luckily I haven't had to deal with much price gauging on my server. I did have one person give me rumors of a chef selling be brandy at 375k/crate, I quickly took her into my shop, sold her 600k worth of stuff at reasonable prices (25k/crate for most things), and she is suggesting me to all her guild and friends as a fair businessman.
For BE's, I have yet to be asked for compensation when someone makes me a schematic. The few I have had made for me where all from people that I knew before the patch, and seemed shocked when I tipped them 50k for their work. I recently met another be who is now making me 85+ Broad Spectrum Nutrients for 1k each, which is a price we decided on together, discussing it in a very friendly matter. If there was more money going around on my server I might pay a little more for these, but then I would have to charge more for my brandy. If I was ever asked 250k for a schematic that I had to supply all the resources for, I would rather pump that 250k into resources so that I could start working on be, becouse in my own opinion that is outrageous.
As for wether or not we are the greediest people in the galaxy, I don't think so. There will always be price gaugers, you seem to me to be one of them, but there is a simple way of avoiding it, I simply won't buy from you. God bless capitalism.

SpiceIsLife wrote:250k to make a schematic, how I take that 250k and spend it on some pot for you to smoke along with the crack you are smoking now. Where has common courtesy gone in this game, If anyone on Eclipse wants free buffs or free schematics or anything send me a tell.
In defense of the BE and Chefs of Chilastra, I would like to note that on our server, the V Brandy he is speaking of our BE + Chefs combined (and tailors I hear) are hitting the +420 Mind/Focus/Willpower with 20+ uses. So the 200k for a crate of 25 of them is 200k for 500+ uses a crate so about 400 credits per use. That's a pretty good deal in my book.
