Why do you think this will reduce variety? If you use high quality resources under the current system, you get essentially the same behavior as the new system.

I just made a bivoli and used 10 experimentation points to max nutrition. I could probably do the same with brandy, but I never have because I think a 45m duration and 50 filling are more important. In fact, most of my foods get points in flavor and filling first, leaving me without enough to max nutrition.

I expect the new system will make it harder to get the same results that I get now, but I don't see it changing how I weigh the value of nutrition vs flavor/filling/quantity.

I am not happy with this system either. There are two issues for me:

Part of me agrees with the fact that the stats of the resources will have even more of an effect on food. But i gotta wonder, though....chefs have four to five stats they have to worry about. Won't this harm us?

In my opinion, this won't hurt the chefs too much. Most chefs experiment with the best resources. With very few exceptions, I spend all of my points going up the buff column (until I max it), with maybe one or 2 for duration and/or filling.Using great resources, you will max the buff collumn in 10 great experimentations, just like before. Any extra points from skill tapes will allow you to hit the other experimentation lines for a point or 2, just like before. The only people who will suffer are the people who don't use top quality resources. They will have to spend 10 pts just to get a mediocre buff, where before they could max it with 5-6 and then improve other lines with the extra points.

With this in mind, I think that good chefs who use top resources will see little change in their products (with the possibility of better final results than before). Chefs who use mediocre resources will see drastically poorer results. I don't think that is a bad thing.

The profession that will truly suffer from this patch will be the AS profession. They have a variety of materials that are alwaysvery poor in key stats. They could compensate for this before by using the extra experimentation points on other categories. That will no longer be an option, because in order to get even the mediocre buff that the resources allow, it will tie up almost all of their experimentation points.

And therein lies my problem with this. I don't charge my customers enough to have millions to spare for skill tapes. Currently, I do have an extra point or 2 to spread around. With this change, I will not. So, truly, the statement should read: Those chefs with skilltapes will be unaffected.

The chefs with skill tapes had 2-3 points to play around with instead of 1-2. So the statement shouldn't be rephrased that way.

The bottom line is that chef food will not change for the most part, because with the exception of 2-3 minutes of duration or 3-4 points of filling, your numbers will be the same.

The only professions that will be truly slammed by this will be those with crappy gated resources. If we had a requirement for plumbum iron, or desh copper with high SR, then we would be in that boat too. Luckily, Neutronium steel is our most specific mineral (which spawns with high DR/SR/OQ relatively often), and hide/wood with high SR is our biggest limitation.

We, as chefs, will not be too much different after the patch, we will have to choose how to spend 1-2 points differently. That's all.

Not nearly as bad as the AS's which have to cope with losing 4-6 points.

PS. I don't own any skill tapes, but I'll make it my business to get some soon. Every other serious chef is saving to buy them, I would suggest that you do, too.

I've been saving. I figure I have about 300-500,000 saved so far. Not bad for 8 months work. Another 5 years or so, I'll get those 2 points! /smile
