That's how it was before, but this change must have gone in on the last patch and is fixed now.

When the high-power-short-duration buff drops, does it wipe the long-duration one as well? I remember reading about some buffs "over-writing" others when they didn't stack.

how do you see what your stats are
all i can see on my character sheet, is health, and percents for action and mind, no regeneration stats, so how do i know the food actually does anything?

The little icons appear under your ham bars telling you what buffs you have, and what debuffs.
