When using poisons in PVE, you get medical xp for the initial application. If you do no other damage than the last hit to kill a mob then you will get little to no unarmed or combat xp. If you are planning to be a melee/CM then I recommend you agro several mobs on you, use AE poisons and then spam a melee AE attack like /unarmedspinattack1. If you click the link at the bottom of my sig you'll get an idea of what I mean.
