I sell crates of high quality tattoine sunburns for 25k. I amconsidering dropping my price to 20k a crate.

I am not in a PA.. I am fully self supporting.. I even give away free samples.

This is not a bad deal for me... lets break it down.

It takes 100 resources to make a stack of sunburn.. so 2500 per crate.

At 25k I am selling the sunburns for 10 credits per resource used.... THAT IS A HUGE PROFIT.

At 20k per crate that would break down to be 8 credits per resource used... THAT IS A HUGE PROFIT.

Even if you buy the resources at a HUGE price your still making great cash.

Seeing that I harvested all my resources myself I am paying about 0.5 credits per resource (maybe even less).

So at 25k per crate thats a 23,750 credit profit.. thats HUGE.

At 20k thats 18,750 credit profit...

I mean to be honest we could go much lower even as low as 10ka crate and still make a profit... if we harvest our own resources...

Now... if you BUY resources at 4 credits a unit then you could sell a crate for 20k and still make a 10k profit.

If you buy resources for more then that... well then thats your own problem... I mine my own ... make my own.. and sell my own.

I have a hard time believing that resources could be only 0.5 cr/u. Cost comes in many forms. Even if I macro harvest my resources there is still the time factor. I can't do anything with that character while harvest. If I throw down a few harvesters, it's still going to cost for maintenance and energy. I'm not calling anyone a liar, I just have a hard time believing it. Maybe I should start keeping track of my resources better and price out the cost.

When I actually price my items I usually go off the idea that if I bought the items from a reasonable bazaar or private vendor, then I would pay roughly 3 cr/u for above average resources, and 4 - 6 cr/u for great resources and if really in need, up to 7 or 8 cr/u for the absolutely incredible resources. The profit I actually make from harvesting them myself is irrelevant to the customer. It's the going price of the resources on the galactic market that should have the biggest influence in price. Take Tatooine Sunburns. As mentioned, they require 100 resources. That's it. But thereare costs like factory time for the components, and the sacrificed components for making the manufacturing schematic...etc.. Then there is the cost of the most important final ingrediant, reactive gas. I always figure that I'm using my highest quality RG for final combination and that will run about 6 cr/u on the market if I sold it there. But these are only estimates and I'm always refining my pricing based on the market.

So what am I getting at here? Each stack of TS costs about 700 cr plus or minus 100 for bad/good days. Each crate costs about 17500 cr to make going by fair market prices. Thus a fair price to sell a crate to me is 25k to 35k depending on vendor costs and distance traveled. All these little things add to the value of the crate. If I travel to Lok, or Dath with a few crates and spend a bit of time trying to sell a couple crates, then I'm going to stick to the 30k as my lowestprice because I always find someone to buy. The only time I go cheaper is if someone buys multiple crates at a time. You want 5 crates? Sure, you are unquestionably going to get a super deal from me.

If you mass mine (drop multiple heavy harvesters on a resource) then you can definately get down to around .5cr a unit, and this is with the OLD harvesters which were at 7 for a heavy, which are now running at a rate of 10 for some harvesters.

That's all well and good if you are buying crap resrouces, but I have a resource that scores out over 2800 for the 3 stats and I get 30c per unit when I decide to sell some (and not much of it) and people begging me to sell them more, but this resource hasn't been on the been on the Chilastra table since the game first went live. And just to torment Liv and other chefs and docs on Chilastra, I still have over 125k units of this resource stashed away And it was all harvested with just personal harvesters and sampling. No mediums or heavies available back then.

You also forgot to factor in the value of your time running around checking your harvesters. That also a cost associated with it, even though it is not a cost out of your pocket.

Also, this really all depends on the server you are on, a chef on Bria is not in competition with a chef on Tempest. The economies on all the servers are seperate, the state of the economy and markets on those servers are differnt, there fore the going rate for food, the going rate for resources and the demand/supply are different also. Best to compare your prices with those of other chefs on your own server.

I find the best method of keeping track of the economy is selling some food on the bazaar. If it goes quick and for X price, then I know people will be willing to walk to my store to get it or would pay more for a crate of it. If the item doesn't sell within a 2 day period then I lower the price until it does.

The bazaar is a great economic barometer because everyone looks at it and they don't need to walk very far to do so. It's like the 'impulse item rack' at your local supermarket.

Great point, Miradus! I do the same once in a while. That way also helps to get new customers.
