Thread: Doc buffs as a comparison why food isn't competitive
well the thing about doctor buffs though is you cant administer them yourself (unless you are the doctor)
so unless you got a doc handy on your hunting party it wouldnt work that efficiently. But with food, you can take it when you please and you can target a specific pool for a buff (starshine surprise is nice if you plan on using a lot of special attacks etc.)
i agree the time on food should be more like 10mins though
that arguement about needing a doctor doesnt hold up because the duration of there buff..
X person goes to town and buys 10 tatoonie sunburns from a master chef at 4 mins each to go hunting right after there purchas.
+1803 Stamina +1803 Strength -90 focus (really because of a bug -180 focus)
Duration if Constantly fighting and wanting to keep the effects of the buff 40 mins.
Y person goes to the medical center where a master doc with a 35% medical droid buffs all non mind stats for 1500 for 2 hours but for the sake of comparison only STR and Stamina.
+1500 Stregnth
+1500 Stamina
Duration 2 hours
Person X needs to visit a Chef again before Person Y needs to visit the doctor. For person X to get the same duration as person Y from the chef they would need to buy 30 tatoonie sunburns.
30 tatoonie sunburns experimented for +1803 for 4 mins would come in stacks of 5 or 6
so they would need to buy either 6 stacks of 5 or 5 stacks of 6.
Losing either 5 invantory space or 6 invantory space
Doctor buffed indivisual is good to go from 2 stims .
Person Y Needed to find a Doctor
Person X Needs to Find a Chef or a Vender
Person Y can be buffed beter because of droids
Person X can not have any enhanced effects placed on food when they eat it.
Person Y has no Side Effect
Perxon X sacrafices there Focus for midiocure buffs.
The Fact that you can eat it anywhere isnt that big of a deal , you cant eat 9 foods at a time buffing every single stat .. You must wait to eat again if you fil lyourself up if your using master chef foods that can be like 15 mins.
Well these are very good responses here. I was trying to think of a reason why it is either competitive or not.
1) It is a good point about needing a doc present. If you are running to Fort Tusken, like many seem to do for xp, buffing in town and then making the 10-15 minute trek eats up time. Plus you have to wait for the camp to group up. Also, the convenience of being able to do it yourself is huge. As a master surgeon and almost Master Heavy Swordsman, buffing people takes a lot of Mind. I simply do not have the mind if I want to fight to keep this and healing going.
2) The other thing I see that is huge is that mind pool is a different animal. You may think that a 100 point mind buff isnt competitive but for me as a battle doc it is huge. I am constantly healing and 100 points to the mindtranslates into about 500 hp each on health and action if I'm using a decent D stimp. Thats a free heal.
Again, im just trying to really think here because your reasoning is very sound on these matters..
Shoot me down on this.. Wouldnt 100 mind points translate into a 2000 buff?
Player A is buffed to Health 2000
Player B is buffed to mind 100 and he is a decent medic. Say he can use a really good C stimp.
Player A is hit for 500 and slowly starts to regen.
Player B is hitfor 500 and heals using 100mind.
Bothregen 100 and are hit again.
PlayerB heals again.
Process continues and Player B= Player A or maybe better..
Since mind hits are equal to each player they would be equal there..
Of course there is still the buffs to sub components to think about... ![]()
when chef gains other abilitie like:
Herbalist Healing for healing mind damage.
Then Doctors can say they should have beter buffs then a master chef.
But a Master Chef not a novice or a iron chef , a Master chef should buff the best beter then even you as a doctor even if your a master doctor.
The Limitations on buffs are COMPARIBLE to the limitations on foods none of them are any worse. The Chef invested and entire Elite Profesions points into Buffs and nothing else, and by nothing else I mean nothing else.
Chef doesnt do anything but buff , they can't heal they can't use cool unique weapon specials , they cant use a advanced dishwasher droid to enchance there food products..
So untill they give the chef profession an Althernative ability such as healing or fighting in the same elite profesion (Chef) the chef deserve and should be the best buffer..
THE only reason Doctor is a beter buffer is because it was beta tested Chef was not. The Last 2 weeks of beta the devs went thru and removed all the Doctor Schematics that required Milk and Eggs , as well as balanced the buffs durations and +%
The Chef was forgoten and didnt have one change , the entire beta. . When they removed all the Milk and Eggs from Medic and Doctor they forgot about Chef , Shows you how important Chef was ment to be to this game.
Chef should how ever be the most effective buffer in the game , why should doctors worry ? Doctor buffs will always stack with food buffs , Food buffs just arnt worth it if you already have doctor buffs because
You have to carry to the food losing invantory
You have to buy the food going out of your way
You have to remember to use the food right before every battle.
You can lag and accedentally eat too many forcing a 15 min wait before you can eat again.
Doctor buffs will always have the convienance that all you need to do is sit in a camp or a med center and get buffs and be good to go ..
Wouldnt 100 mind points translate into a 2000 buff?
Player B is hitfor 500 and heals using 100mind.A2000 buff to strength or quickness will change that 500 damage to like 100 or less, and a buff toconst or stamina will meandamage often regens fater than you need to heal it- I hardly notice health/action damage on my patients when they're hunting with me fully buffed. What damages and kills people the most in these games is mind damage - I loose way more mind from a hit in the head than I ever do healing. Hunters are in desperate need of a strong, long-term mind buff. And we don't give them one.
Nice reply. Although im not sure of the sub component stats you gave. I will say this though. In practice, at least with my limited view, I see docs buffing health and action the most with the heavies. My mind must be stronger than most because I rarely die from a straight mind blow. It is generally only after I have healed the other areas for the 4th time that I get low on mind and get mind shotted. In that case you can't really say it was my mind's fault since I was merely transfering one stat for another.
I hope the dev's listen to you. It will only help me more.. ![]()
I am near master doc on the scylla server and I think you are missing alot with your points here. Yes, with a D pack that I buy I can buff all my non-mind stats into the multi thousands. However, I can still be easily killed in any combat by a creature or player who targets my mind - the only stat I can't buff nor heal. Mind is by far my weakness. I am also a pistoleer and often go out solo hunting.
With good food/drink I can significantly improve my mind capacity into the upper 1000'sand with a good food willpower buff I can greatly increase my mind regen. For a real tough fight I can pop a mind expanding spice, eat as much willpower food as possible, and then drink mind expanding drink if I'm still fighting when the downer hits.
In my opinion food is extremely useful and I sorely miss it when I can't find it (ie - when struckmatch isn't around
). My only complaint is the amount of inventory space it takes up because you guys can't make crates of the stuff yet. The reason I've been trolling through the chef profession boards is to see if a fix is forthcoming for the factory issue.
To be at my most effective I use buffs from a doctor (me), food from a chef, spice from a smuggler, a pistol from a weaponsmith, and armor from an armorsmith. I make my medswith advanced components made with highquality resources from harvesters Ibought from architectsand meat I purchase from scouts.I think this is exactly what the developers envisioned and your profession is nowhere near 'broken.' I think you guys (especially struckmatch on scylla) are awesome. Now get those factories fixed for chefs.
Doctors are extremly overpowered right now so I dont see food getting that good I see doctors buffs being reduced to the level of food buffs as a more likely alternative by the devs. In any case doctor is the only class with no Side Effects
Some foods reduce stats all food can only be used so many times master chef foods can only be used once,
Master chef can give out 2 buffs.
master doctor can give out 6 that last much longer
Points that i'd like to add:
- If you want the best buffs there are, you need them to be administered and made by a Master Doctor. That's 140 skill points. There aren't alot of Master Doctors around really, and if you go out anddie, your buff is gone and you have to find a Doctor again. And I don't buff for free ![]()
- The best Doctor buffs require Adv. Wound Treatment Speed and I believe at least Adv. Medicine Knowledge. That's 101 skill points just toUSE them, much less make them,so buffs are obviously not for the random joe-blow dabblerwhereasChef foods can be used by anyone, anywhere at anytime. They're not even like Stim-B's where you need to have Novice Medic to use them.
- Chef foods can buff mind stats.
- Food drastically reduces incap time and all that other stuff that comes up with armor.
I'm not saying you guys don't have it rough, I know you do. But don't say you can't compare to Doctors. Both have their strengths and weakesses.
Fjon Nakamichi, you are out of your mind if you think we're not broken. Cheffing is an entire elite profession ONLY for buffing, or did you not read the posts before? What on earth would make you think that because we can make two gimpy mind buffs to SUPPORT your overpowered Doctor buffs we are not broken. Imagine if you got Master Doctor only to find out that some other class, with healing as only a minor role in the class, healed better than you over could. Thats the position Chefs are in right now.
**edit** posted too soon, otherwise I woulda said SiliconX as well. How DARE you spew that nonsense, propaganda garbage on this otherwise clearly well thought out thread.
YES you have to be a Master Doctor to give those crazy 2000 point 2 hour buffs, but you don't have to to give 200 points for 20 minutes, and thats STILL BETTER than almost everything we can do. Plus you argue like buffing is all a Master Doctor can do. News flash, buffing is all a master CHEF can do. Say again why your buffs should be better?
