Thread: NPC Bartenders
This makes me very sad
I'm climbing the drink tree frist so I could roleplay with that tag, would have gotten it this weekend too. This changetakes my enthusiasm away, lets face it our class is almost all about roleplaying since we don't have very good stuff to sell.
By the way this is the first negative post about SWG from me,because I think this changestinks. I'm just glad I still have my combat skills.
I had seen NPC bartenders in a few cantinas before the patch (Espa and Eisly, IIRC), and noticed the sale of drinks. I was much relieved when I saw that the drinks they provided didn't have any buffs. Although for a brief instant I did savor holding a blue milk inmy inventory (then I drank it).
Perhaps one thing that could be done is to move the NPC bartender more off to the side, leaving the front curve of the bar for any PCs that want to take charge.
And I really like the idea of having the NPC bartenders act as bazaars for player created food/drink, maybe even spice. However, I think to keep things balanced, anything up for sale on a bartender "vendor" should count towards the same 25 item limit that the normal bazaar uses. So you if you had 10 things for sale on the bazaar, you'd only be able to put up 15 on a bartender. Otherwise chefs have a perk giving them a leg up over other crafters (additional bazzar slots) that should really go to the business skill branch or merchant class.
Actually, maybe an easier implementation would be to just make the bartender's purchase window the same interface as a bazaar terminal, but limited to the misc -> food and misc-> drink categories. By plugging it into the same market as the bazaar, any food/drink up for sale in the city is available from the bartender.
I dont like them at all. I don't know why the hell you would want to use them anyways, its not like you can SEE food to be able to roleplay with it, but when they do start to get some of are animation cycles and other cool graphics working they better remove those **edit** vendors. Players should be using us for those purposes and adding them in is giving them an alternative.
I also agree with what someone else posted above about a lack of priorities...come on, first it was the color of a body suit, and now they are adding in NPC vendors? Are these people "high"?
I am just really dissapointed that instead of fixing us and giving more incentive to want to be at the cantina serving drinks, they just add in an NPC instead....
This is the answer we wanted in our "petition" thread !
They got a replacment for us and chef will be deleted soon -)
Ok, will bring it up with the devs, both the people who don't like it because of role playing and those who want to use them as a vendor.
One thing, though, for the people who want to role play bartenders (which I am one...entire reason for becoming a chef): we will have player owned cantinas soon.
heh.
The only reason I got into the chef tree was because I became the bartender for Star Dragon entertainment on Intrepid back near release ![]()
Going in now a NPC bartender would not have bothered me but if there was one back then I problably never would have been a chef. At the time my logic was it didn't feel right to have a Catina fance bar and tables without a bartender and waiters (I had droids doing route to make them look like waiters
)
Anymore I stick to PC owned catinas. They are less laggy and more intresting than the NPC ones anyway.
they should be vendors, because food & drink should be a part of the cantina experience (but in the long run there needs to be food & drink with interesting or special effects- ive written ideas about this before). OK, maybe not giving chefs more bazaar slots- i retract that idea and agree that that is something which merchants should get.
Im pretty ticked off by the bartenders to be honest. Yes as sources of info they work great and I'm happy with that, but dispensing drinks is absurd. ittotally confusesnewer players ("well I bought a sunburn for 5 cr, why should I buy yours?", "yeah Ive bought BoHs- they dont do anything", it currently adds NOTHING to the game (its not like you get to see people with drinks in their hands let alone actively drinking anything), oh and guess what? They're BUGGED! i bought a BoH (out of curiosity) and all i got given was an alcohol. This happened several times with several of, tho not all of, the drinks i tried to buy)
It took them weeks to fix the food stack bug and now we have a stat-reducing bug instead. The grinding required for chef is horrendous. The buffs are mostly useless, and the variety on offer basically pointless. Durations are insulting. Devs are making no effort to throw us any bones, or even keep us going with some exciting 'in development' ideas for our profession. The whole Chef profession has been kicked in the nuts over and over again, so then they put NPC bartenders in and have them selling useless drinks?
OK I've been sticking up for the poor embattled Devs for the last 2 months. Now I'm letting off steam.
I used one of these bartenders to buy a 5credit buffless Aitha, and then I clicked away to read his rumors out of curiosity. After about 6 clicks, I started getting repeated statements and the novelty quickly wore off.
a) I like the idea of having a cantina NPC you can interact with for rumors. I don't like the bartender because he does have buffless drinks at bad pricing. For one, he presents a false idea of what our foods should cost to players. His bufflessness provides a false impression of what these drinks do when taken. Finally, he repeats after awhile, and the novelty quickly wears off. It would work better for me as an interaction if he was able to offer missions or drop clues about neat places to visit besides just rumors and bad drinks. As a whole, he's not as exciting as he should be. They really should rename him to "Stockboy" or something silly and less effectual sounding - *that* I could support. It would amuse people who try to asssure themselves they know every profession, too.
b) I liked the NPC patrons who show up at the tables on Tattooine and wished we had THOSE in Coronet. For one, we have a proliferation of AFK dancers/musicians. When you want to actively roleplay, its more fun goofing off with an NPC at the FRONT of the cantina where the dancers/musicians/other players would gather than all the way at the BACK of the cantina. Actually, some of us like to rub in our distaste with AFKers by playing it up with pets and other willing targets. The lack of these nearby NPC targets presents a real need for NPCs of a different sort. As a former musician, I found we could liven things up and get better tips with nearby willing NPC targets to play off of. I loved the big furry white alien on Tattooine and suggest that instead of NPC bartenders, the Develleriums use really unique alien species NPC patrons up front.
Hmm, my request is ONE NPC Alien Patron at the front of the cantina between the bar and the tables. That way he is nearby for bartenders and entertainers to work off of. I do realize that every time a player click on him, we could end up with spatial dialogue unless this is menu driven interactions, but, I'd so much rather THIS option than the weaker variation we currently have.
The addition of NPC bartenders really bothers me. Sure, the rumors are a nice touch, but the impression that it gives to me is that the devs feel that they can replace us with an NPC. The drinks from the NPC are cheap, are as effective for role-playing as our drinks, and while they don't give any buffs, they also don't permanently lower your stats like ours currently do. Finally, this was listed in the patch notes as one of the top 5 additions for content; in other words, this is a major feature that the devs chose to implement instead of putting time and effort toward rescuing our dying class. To me, this 'feature' is an empty use of valuable development resources. ![]()
