Outsider-butting-in-perspective: If you are quitting because of what the community has become, don't. Wait it out a month or so. Go do something else with your gaming time (quests, new profession on another server, whatever) if you don't want to be a chef right now. But in a month, two tops, I think you will see your community return to normal. There will be more chefs, but many of those that flock to the latest new thing will have flocked to something else (DE, most likely) by then. Also there will be fewer and fewer hologrinders. And prices will have stabilized and there will be less resentment.

Similar scenarios have played themselves out in several professions. This is the problem with doing beta-level types of profession changes (and in some cases profession implementations!) after launch. This too shall pass.

I played the game fromLaunch (Day#1.5) and took up chef while finishing up my semester (november/december 03). I wanted to be a chef, but previous to that it was too broken to make much sence to commit to it (Also loved being a Master Musican untill the damn Holocrons were introduced). Since then I thought I got a good grasp on the foods. Then this patch hit. I'm still learning like many others, but I still enjoy it. I sell my goods, and the people who host my vendors sometimes are pushy on how much they want stocked, but still they realize the game is still about interaction and having fun.

I still enjoy this game and the people I meet every day. Some are rude and ignorant, some are just absolute fun people who are gaming. The best thing I can say is that change is hard to accept. The 'old' school isn't wrong by any means, they just have seen things before the 'new' school's time and can compare. I enjoy the wisdom the veterans have to offer and sometimes the fresh ideas/methods of the new guys are just as refreshing.

I'm new to the chef boards but I've been a Ranger since launch. I have to admit I did decide to do chef because of the publish, but not to make money. I had created a second account to try new professions since I wanted to stay on the same server but try different professions. I started out trying BE and I loved it and I had never really done any crafting profession so I first tried Tailor and it wasn't really for me. So i decided to use 1 of the holocrons I got for christmas and it said Merchant so I mastered it and didnt really have fun doing it so i decided to stop holoing and wait for the changes to try for Jedi. Then I heard about the chef changes and thought it would be cool so I tried it and I really like it. I had created a new character to try new things but now I'll be a Chef/BE for a long time. Mostly I will supply my guild food and maybe keep vendors stocked, but i dont really care about the money. I likeChef because I like always trying to best my last buff stats or duration or whatever and your community is really great(almost as great as the Ranger community ) I'm really a man of few words and i just /nod or /agree with people but I'll help anytime I see an opening to.

I've been here since Beta, though I rarely post. I have found that while yes, there are a lot of people simply grinding their way to Master, if you just ignore them and let them do their grind, they will be gone faster than you realize. I've never been in this to make money, or to become the galaxies' leading Fishak/Brandy/Sunburn dealer, but I find that I get by comfortably. It all boils down to your attitude, not theirs. Don't like the fact that all these new people are coming in?Don't like the fact that Chef has changed, and become (/sarcasm on) *gasp* popular and *double gasp* respectable as a profession? (/sarcasm off) Then play the game your way, baby! Don't let the Holochefs and all the other money hunters get you down - the true chef client base will always come back to the true chefs in the end.
